Talking Newbie

Hello all. My name is Adrian and I'm from TX. I've browsed this forum more than once in the last week or so while looking for info on my new project car. I just picked up a 1984 green 190e 2.6 litre (I believe ) , 5 spd with tan interior. I'm not sure on your color codes. I'm, for the most part, a noob to this model and also to MB as I currently drive an Acura as my daily and had a 240sx prior. Which my 240 is kind of the reason I got this since it is rwd and 5spd. :p The car currently doesn't run a and has been sitting for a long time. The tags expired in 2005 and I'd like you're professional input on what you guys think it is. The car turns on but the clutch stays down when I press it so it doesn't engage, therefore it does not crank. I'm already planning on replacing the clutch save and matter cylinders as well as dropping the gas tank to clean it and replace all the fluids. Would you all recommend anything else??

Thanks in advance and I hope to learn alot from you guys and hope you all as cool if not cooler than the guys on my acura forums. Now onto some pics.

My photobucket is being weird right now and it's 2:40am right now. So I'll get the issue resolved tomorrow morning and post pix then.

W201 190E 3.0 M103
That'd be a 2.3 litre injected 120hp four-cylinder engine (power increased later production).

It was actually only available in the US in 84, the Euro one was a 2.0 litre until 1986 but Cali emissions laws caused such power loss that for the US market they used the bigger capacity of the Cosworth version for the basic M102 model. They didn't introduce the bigger four to Europe until later and then in late 86 the M103 six-cylinder from the 300E was de-sized for a luxury version in 2.6 litre, at 165hp.

ie. the 2.6 is a six-cylinder and wasn't in production until late 86.

As for the bootlid badge, I think someone added that themselves. I don't think the US 190E in 83-85 had a spec-badge unless it was a 2.3-16 import (and the badge says "2.3-16").
I think the "2.3" and "2.6" spec-badges didn't appear until 1986 in Europe to differentiate from the 2.0 litre standard model 190E.

The 83-86 US version was only 2.3 litre as an attempt to keep the same performance as the Euro 2.0 and was just the stock base version, so no spec-badge was required until 1986 when Mercedes needed to differentiate between Euro versions.

I'm not very familiar with US cars/deliveries so I could be wrong, but the "190E" badge on the other side has been missing since the last time the bootlid was resprayed (probably got rear ended at some point), so a "2.3" or a "2.6" badge was probably added by the owner at that time, but I don't think there was one there from the factory in 84, just the "190E" on the other side, which has been removed.
