Sticky Window

I've got a 1986 190e with a sticky power window...that's presently stuck in the 'down' position. A couple of questions.
1. Is there any way of getting the window back up manually without having to take the door apart. If that doesn't work....

2. How do the door panels come off? Did a quick inspection, but there doesn't seem to be any screws that need removal. Got an idea how to do it but before I really screw something up I thought I'd ask the experts.

Can anyone help?

There is no way to manually operate the window. If you try to raise it with the switch, can you grab the window and assist it?

I believe the door panels on the W201 are secured the same way as a W124.

*Remove the plastic frame around the door actuator lever, then remove the actuator rod from the handle.

*The trim covering the mirror wiring needs to be removed (be careful!).

*Remove the plastic shroud around the latch (on the side of the door).

*Unscrew the locking knob.

*GENTLY lift the door panel upwards. The door is secured with plastic hooks, which can break if you are too forceful and quick.

*Remove the courtesy light.

*Carefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier. When you are done making repairs, use spray adhesive to reattach the barrier to the steel door frame. Try not to get any on the window!

While the panel is off, you should bring it inside and clean it with a vinyl cleaner and apply protectant (like Armor All).

Thanks Jer:

Got the panel off in one piece. Thanks for your directions. That door actuator lever was giving me problems.

You won't believe it! After all that work I had to drive it to the gas station, hit a bump and it's working fine. At least its closed again. Seems like it's one of those wiring gremlins.

Thanks again for your help.

Glad I could be of help.

Also, I correct myself on the Armor All. Do not use it. Meguiar's vinyl cleaner/protectant or Vinylex is better.

Since you have the door panel off I would carefully inspect the window regulator for cracked or broken guides.

See sig.
Probably won't hurt to do add a bit of grease.
