Car was running hot at idle..would go down while driving..mechanic took out thermostat..and now cannot drive car..overheats within 5 minutes..what could be the issue..

This one is a very simple problem. Install a working thermostat. And find a real mechanic that understands the basic stuff. I don't have time to write up the why of the problem, breifly with out a regulator and depending on the ambient temp that the radiator see's and coolant flow is the why.
