190E 2.3-16v 1986 (Euro) [Info needed]

Finding information on this car is a b****. Anyways going straight to the point..does anyone have an english website that I can take a look at for some "history" on the car and some detailed specs. 190e 2.3L 16 Valve 1986 (European version/import)

Looking for this kind of info:

Weight:
What differential used if any:
RWD:
Base HP/Torque:
Type of suspension used:
Basic features:
MPG?:
0-60 (harhar):
Base price in 86 in the US imported:
How many were imported:
Maybe price now:

Bloody anything would be good...What I really wanted to know was like the 1st four and last 2.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Euro Spec
Weight: Approx 1300 KG
What differential used if any: 3.07 Limited Slip (ASD)
RWD: Yes
Base HP/Torque: 177@6200rpm / 230Nm@4500rpm
Type of suspension used: Fully ind; strut & coil front; Self Leveling, 5-link in the rear

Basic features:
MPG?:
0-60 (harhar):
Base price in 86 in the US imported:
How many were imported: Euro spec cars weren't officially imported, grey market cars were individually brought in

Maybe price now:

The Euro spec model benefited from a higher rev limit due to a different fuel pump relay and less restrictive emissions system. Otherwise, the two were pretty much the same. The Euro models may have also benefited from slightly lower weight since the US versions were "fully loaded."

hmm wasn't the base HP like 185 for the 2.3-16...so far I've read two site (german so no idea) showing a 185 figure.

Also ASD(auto slip), how does it work like....does it act as LSD when needed, and change to..unlimited slip on normal use?

Also on the suspension was it more of a sports package type thing, like hmm more "sportish" than normal.

::rather amazed at the low weight though::

The Euro spec 2.3-16 HP was 185 for the non-emission controlled version.

ASD (translaed "automatic check differential") is Mercedes acronym for Limited Slip Differential.

The suspension is slightly lower (approx. 1/2 in drop) than stock and uses a front strut valved like a Bilstein HD.

7.8 with the 177HP version or 185HP version.

Little confused on the Emissions controlled , what determines that one. What's an easy way to determine which version. All I know is that the car I might be getting, did not pass smog the legal way.

I think that 7.8 would probably fit the 177HP version. Just comparing to say...a 2003 RSX (160hp Base) base model or something, it's getting 0-60 in high 6s?...I would think the RWD of the Benz plus the perhaps 17-25 added HP (160 compared to 177-185) and the torque lbs/ft where the Benz has 36 more lb/ft of torque (Forgot my nm-lb/ft but I believe 190e is around 177 lbs/ft
and RSX at 141) should be running faster.

Where the 190E lacks is in the weight, RSX-190E going by the kg given 2850ish lbs vs RSX 2769 lbs.

How would a 190e run that slow, possibly because it was tested along time ago? Lower octane gas? Better tires? 7.8 = US Spec version? Bad gear ratios?

Curious as how the advantages of a 190E still seem to run slow numbers.

Yes but they are geared like a new benz is, not for 0-60 but passing power and overtaking power on the highway. Plus it if was an auto tranny, they do not first gear start unless floored and do not shift at redline on first gear, unless you drop the shifter to the 2 and then start from there. But they had a short first gear.......

Edit: And for 1986 a 0-60 in the 7 second range was actually quite quick! I think the 5 speed gets there in like 7.2.

Yea I was talking about the 5-speed, good to know its 7.2.

Yea however I am aware of the amazing 185hp 7s sec 0-60 of 18 years ago. I'm just thinking it may come a time when someone does not believe how great this "classic" really is, and I may have to prove it on the track.

Thank you for furthur educating me. Hard to find this kind of information just from google. Plus 190rev is down

Yeah 190Rev being down is killing me. I have done so much in the last week and have no one to tell. Plus I had a question I asked before it tanked and of course forgot what it was now. Personally I am still considering a Turbo for my 2.3 8 valve, or at least an EFI setup I could install in say a weekend. Turbo is probably the easiest to do if I can get a header and of course piping to the exhaust, I would run like 6 psi since I have an 86 with a 8:1 Compression Ratio.

my friend makes his own EFI system, mostly for audi, but he said he could make one for the 190E. his system rivals Electromotive's Tec3 system at half the price. www.034efi.com. i think with a 8:1 compression, u can run way more boost than that. bekkers sells a turbo 2.6-16v conversion with a 8:1 compression ratio and they say its more for higher boost. i know for the stock 16v with a 9.5:1 compression ration, we can only run like 7psi. we installed that EFI system in my friend's new Jetta and Audi 90 Coupe. the coupe is pushing about 350hp and the Jetta is about 300hp.

I was thinking 6 psi with the current CIS-E system in the 1986, that is why I kept it low, plus to keep everything stock and have no worries. I think then I should be around 165-170Hp with no IC needed. That is about all I want is a little more pickup. I got the new Benz for the performance, albeit no Viper Smoker, but still pretty good for what it is. I may just do EFI to get better combustion, may add a little power but the response and MPG would be a hell of a lot better than now. Still up in the air, but I would like more info on your Friends EFI setup!
