190 2.3-16v Self leveling suspension

Whats up guys, I just picked up an 1986 16v and have a few questions. First issue I'd like to address is the self leveling suspension. The rear suspension seems to be stuck in the up-position, making the rear end stick up higher than it should. This also causes the car to bounce when going over bumps, almost feeling like a pogo stick in the rear. Ive read that this can be caused by an issue with the linkage? Or maybe the valve? Anyone have a similar issue? or know what this can be caused by? Thank you.

Unfortunately it’s not as simple as adjusting the sls rod. There are nitrogen cells in the rear suspension, typically when the bladders burst the gas mixes with the fluid causing air to fill in the shocks.

The fix fix would be to replace the nitrogen cells
drain the sls system and the shocks
fill and bleed the system.

Use the adjustmet rod rod to set ride height.

Expect to to pay a shop about 600-800 to do the service. Hopefully the shocks are still in good condition and they don’t leak.

Awesome, I did some research the past few days and came to the conclusion that it is the nitrogen cells. Luckily I work in my family auto body shop and it seems pretty easy if done right. Thanks for the help!

The MB Classic Center in Germany will be your best place with the most knowledge about your car's SLS. It might also provide a good excuse for visiting the MB museum too while you're there.
