MPG Question?

How many MPG should a 1985 190e 2.3 get?

Also, I recently added STP Fuel Injector cleaner, with the "Jet Fuel" additive and it really did help imprive performance. I guess it does help clean on the injectors.

The 2.3 8 Valve from that time frame gets about 18-20 City and 22-24 highway. Not very good by todays standards but darn good for the mid 80's. Also has 120Hp and about 136ft/lbs of tourque and a 8:1 compression ratio. So it could be easily turboed and some are working on EFI conversion which of course would improve fuel economy as well as engine smoothness and start-up.

According to the MB Maint CD the 1985 and 1986 had it as well. The were an upgraded engine I believe but still had the older KE-II Jetronic Fuel System. That was updated on the 1987 2.3 models with KE-III. The 2.3 16 V engine and 2.6 were KE-III as well. The 1984 was a diferent engine but had the same fuel system and compression ratio as the 1985 and 1986. The 1987+ also had a 9:1 compression ratio.

I just took a 2,000 mile trip in my 1987 190E 2.3 and averaged 26 MPG in combined highway/city driving, which I thought was pretty good. About 80% of the driving was highway, with the remainder being stuck in traffic in and around Chicago Mileage would have probably been better in cooler weather without the a/c on.
