Windshield Wiper Speed the Same on Low and High
Hi all,
I have a 1993 190e 2.3 and The windshield wiper works on intermittent and low but when I switch to high the speed does not increase. Any ideas as to how to fix this issue?
Thanks.
Dave

How many miles on the car? Have not seen a post like yours in the past but I would make sure the stalk works first.
Do all the other functions of the wiper/turn signal stalk work? Can you flash your high beams as an example?

The wiring diagram suggests that the wiring is direct and does not go thru a relay for the speed control. So the problem must be either in the motor or the combination switch (stalk) itself.
You can change the combination relay (13 pin) to see if that helps. There are at least 2 of the same relays in the back of the fuse box. Swap them and see if it makes a difference. I very much doubt it though.
- Cheers!

Thank you very much for your replies. The car has 124,000 miles. The turn signals work, though they do not always return to off after a turn. The high beams work. I do have another steering wheel and turn signal stalk that I purchased used to try to combat the lack of return to off after turning. I will try swapping the relays. Your information about the wiring being direct really helps me to narrow it to the motor or stalk which is a big help to me. I thank you for that! I may not get to fix it for a while as the car is a NY car I keep at my moms for when I visit, and I will be returning home soon. I did fix a problem with a 1991 w126 wiper system. The intermittent wiper was getting stuck mid sweep and I was able to fix it by resoldering the power connections on the wiper motor. Maybe I will be as lucky with this car!

Sounds good. The turn signal stalks are not a wear item in these cars, just so you know. Mine is original at 33 years, 205K miles. Mostly city driven as a daily driver. So very heavy usage of the turn signal stalk. This is why I had asked for your mileage. If I were you, I would just unplug the wiring which is close to fender under the dash. So remove the knee bolster, bottom dash cover in the foot well and reach up way on the left. You may need a flash light to see it. The plug has a tab to pull it down. Unplug it, hook-up your spare and test it first to see if it solves your wiper issue. You can do all this before you remove the steering wheel. You will need to unplug it anyway at some point.
