It is sounding more and more like your FD is shot or fouled up.

I put injector cleaner through all the injectors more or less got a cone spray pattern.
I'm curious to know how you did this since the injectors need something like 55PSI pressure to open and spray.
Do you have an air compressor to do this?

- Cheers!

If you're still finding dirty fuel, that leads me to think you need to solve where the dirty fuel is coming from first because dirty fuel will continue to foul your entire fuel system and keep causing these problems.

Reminds me of my old 86 Golf cabriolet with a rust hole in the filler neck.
I pulled the FD and injectors again.
The dirt is from the other injectors for a Formula 3 car.

I'm a little confused. Is the dirt in your W201 coming from injectors you're using that are from a non MB car? That might be your problem. The injectors you're using aren't compatible with your W201. I also still think you need to check and clean your fuel lines to make sure there's no dirt or clogging going on there either..

The bright shiny ones are for the 190. New Bosch items I bout last year.
I'm also working on a 1987 Formula 3 car with non functional mechanical fuel pump and very dirty injectors.
I cleaned the FD and injectors again and saw a perfect conical spray pattern out of all 4. Now it starts and idles smoothly

I'm so glad you finally solved the problem. My hunch from the beginning was dirt in the fuel system and that's what it turned out to be. Thanks for resolving my previous confusion on which injectors you were using.

The CSV was inoperable , the potentiometer was worn, mixture was way out to allow the car to barely start but easily fowl the plugs the O2 sensor was disconnected, OVP relay and coolant temperature sensor were also bad.
On top of the rusted fuel tank, deteriorated tank strainer, used fuel pumps, plugged filters and injectors, and FD. leaking FPR and accumulator.
And leaking heater control valve. Cracked brake hoses, deteriorated front shock boots,
Think that's all

I also said from the beginning that your car was a victim of seriously neglected maintenance on top of dirt in the fuel system that was causing all kinds of trouble on its own. Your list shows that to be correct. These are great cars when they're properly maintained. I know this from personal experience. All mechanical things need regular maintenance o stay in good working order and your car is no exception to that reality.

How long does it take for a tank to rust up?
I pulled and cleaned it not 6 months ago.

It would start and idle fine then gradually start hesitating and not taking throttle. What's the tank cleaning and coating best practices nowadays? Clearly the specialist remedy didn't work.

After second cleaning. Either this heat, migraines or this car is going to kill me.

I do not have an answer to your question but I can say that leaving the tank empty does not help because the air in the tank can and will be humid. So whatever you do to it to seal it, always keep it near full for longevity especially in a humid climate that you are in. I can't see the tank rusting with fuel in it. I think your tank had been near empty for all those 6 months and perhaps the mechanism that keeps the ambient air from penetrating the tank may not be working. You should hear a swoosh when you remove the fuel tank cap.

Guess I forgot basic physics. Yes the tank was basically empty for the past 6 month. But it was winter and in my warehouse so when I started this thread the tank was freshly cleaned and the car somewhat drove.
Yesterday I put some rocks inside sloshed it around so the cleaning should be better.
And yes the take pressurizes. I hear a swoosh when I open it. The vents are clear. Today I'll back flush the lines to and from the engine.

How quickly the tank rusts depends on the climate and conditions it's been subjected to over its lifetime. The more humid the air, driving on salted roads and a previous owner letting it sit out in the elements are all contributing factors as is now the age of the car which is 30 years old. It might finally be time to replace the fuel tank because the current one will just continue to rust and continue to clog up the fuel system and cause the problems you describe.

POR 15 could work but I'd have to be careful not to let it touch the plastics. I'm not that talented.

You're not able to order a new gas tank online and have it shipped to you?

My last 6 months has not found an new tank. Even if I did I'd be looking at over $1000 in shipping cost. Simply not in the budget.

I understand. That would be too expensive for me too. I would also make sure you're using top level premium fuel as well. You also might be getting bad gas when you fill up and that will certainly result in the kind of crud you've been describing.

Kept on getting a fuel leak. Pulled the tank again to find many holes.

Yikes! You are going to have to source another tank somehow. I believe your model's tank is larger than the standard M102/M103 tank. I have heard of M103's swapping out to the larger tank so the reverse must also be true and even easier. I know you have been looking, hopefully you can find one soon as that one is not salvageable from what I can see.

Are the holes where the "low" spot is in the tank? If so that all makes sense because with an empty tank the water was probably sitting there for long periods of time.

Hard to believe news from Japan yesterday ...

No leaks and cleaner than before. Still rusty. A shop welded the holes and used Devcon on top.
Never heard of Devcon before.
I'm letting it soak a bit longer especially in the corner near the pot.
Instructions say to next empty, dry and rinse with gasoline.
I go on holidays next week so I don't even want to think about this car.
