Pushbutton AC/Heat Control Damaged Harness

I was tracing down a problem with the blower not working with my 1989 190E 2.6 and found that a ground wire had come off from one pin on the harness that connects to the pushbutton AC/Heater control on the passenger side. When I opened the harness to remove the pin and resolder, all of the cables/pins came out of the harness. At this point I am not sure what position each wire occupies. I attempted to lo look at the Climate Control electric diagrams, but either I am not reading them correctly, or they don't don't match the colors I have. Can someone help me out and let me know where I can find what color wire goes into each position 1 - 12 of that harness. I did a search but I didn't see anything that could help.

Are these the 1 inch by 2 inch (or so) flat top connectors that plug into each side of the control unit? And you are referring to the one on the passenger side?

Yes, they are, designated as X1 and X2 in the electric diagrams. In my case I am working with X2. I took a look again at the diagrams and I now understand that the X2 connector is described across two different diagrams. Page 304 for the blower connections and page 307 for Air. This morning I counted 11 active pins between the two diagrams. I hope that is it. Thanks

It worked, blower is now working again. The only issue with the diagrams is that in the car I had a brown/white wire that I didn;t see in the diagram. However, since it was only one wire and I could account for the others, there was only one spot it could go.

Very good to hear you figured it out and thanks for the info. I did not realize one could even open the connector but am not surprised since almost all connectors are made that way in the car.

- Cheers!

One of many things I love about the car bought it new with a manual transmission back in 89. For some reason the ground wires tend to break more frequently in the harnesses, but once found is an easy resolder.

You too? I bought my manual trans back on April 1st, 1989. Still my favorite car to drive after all these years. The wiring issue you mention does not happen here in California.
I'm sure mild and dry weather helps. I see you have an E320 as well. I had one of those for a long time too. It was a '95.

You 2 are my role models. I bought my W201 brand new in October 1990. I'll never part with my W201.
