1993 2.6 190e Exhaust recommendation

Ay 255k miles its time to replace my exhaust. Not looking for a performance exhaust just something close to OEM. I don't think OEM is available.

Any recommendations?

Dave

Stay away from Starla/Ansa Dave. I have a near new one sitting in storage room for the muffler. Less metal on it than the OE Ebersprecher and the tips don't look right as they hang down too much. Also the mercedes clamps do not work because the OD of the pipe is slightly less.

You really want Ebesprecher which is the OE part. Pay the extra $100 for that if you can find it. I see them on EBAY. Generally NOS.

The BOSAL middle resonator is also not the right fit. Mine kept hitting the body for years no matter how much I tried to adjust the hangers. You want an Ebersprecher for that one too.
I happened to buy the last Dealer one in US a few years back. Dealer said there is one left in inventory and they are NLA after that. Also told me not to hold my breath as the inventory control is not 100% and it might have been sold. Lucky for me Mercedes had it!

In summary if you can find them replace both the muffler and middle silencer at once. Then you can save on the installation and do it yourself as they just clamp together. I think the seal rings are still sold at Mercedes. At this point I would go with Ebersprecher, even from EBAY.

Don't know this outfit but they seem legit and they even have the needed extra parts. Price is great too.

OEM went NLA prior to 2016 Dave. I prefer the Walker for CA version. Others use the Magnaflow with success. Both need a muffler shop to cut out the original and weld in the new one.
Walker and Magnaflow will need different mods as the Walker is 1 pipe in 2 pipes out like the original. Magna maybe one in one out but don't quote me on that.

The old timer muffler shop that the dealership sent me to for the CAT replacement preferred the Walker, so that went in in 2016.

I'm still passing CA smog with the walker after 30K miles/ 7 years and recall my engine burns quite a bit of oil which is murder for the CAT.

Buuuuut, if there are no holes in your original why change it? Also if you decide to, I would do it after everything else is sorted out as they have to weld in the new CAT and align it properly with the new exhaust in.

I think that a have a blockage somewhere and with 255K on the clock its time to replace the entire system.

in your case you might consider the magnoflow cat with the piping included from exhaust manifold to mid silencer. that makes it a total diy job and no cutting welding needed. bolt on.

I don't want to tell you what to do but I would strongly suggest that you get to the bottom of your oil burning. don't really have to tell you that If yoru engine ever runs out of oil...

You might try the MB Classic Center in California. I don't know the status of the exhaust system but if the MB Classic Center no longer has any of the parts, they can tell you who all of the OEMs are and give you the part numbers that you can Google to try to find replacements for.

I suspect they removed the center resonator.

My exhaust was rotted out and replaced last year. The honeycomb inside the cat was broken apart and partially clogging the exhaust. I got the magna flow cat with 2.5mm piping and resonator delete to magna flow muffler. It is a bit loud but I like the deep tone and overall sound of the straight 6.

The funnel part of the exhaust that houses the o2 sensor and sits right before the cat will be the hardest to replicate or place. I don’t think that “funnel” is sold anywhere and my exhaust shop could not create anything similar so I kept the funnel and headers stock. If you get your entire exhaust done try and hold on to that funnel

i can post a sound clip once I get my car back if anyone is interested
