Free Power?

Free Power?
Good day gentlemen.
I am the very proud owner of a 1987 190E and I was looking through the net, trying to find any way I can add a little kick to my car and I ran across this site: http://www.2phast.com/190e/
This dude says there is a resistor I can remove, (it's supposed to be somewhere behind the battery but I can't seem to find it) that will give up some better throttle response and more power.
So, here are my observations and questions:
This dude has a new car than me and is an Inline-6 and mine is an Inline-4 so I'm guessing my car may not even have it, has anyone with a 4 cylinder engine tried to find it?
My second question is if any of you think this would actually be safe to do. He says it's given him no problems but gave a disclaimer saying some models may react differently.

The R16 wasn't installed in the W201 until 1987 and it's located in a different location on the M102 4 cylinder, instead of behind the battery wall, it's wound up in tape in the wiring harness that runs alongside the valve cover, under the air cleaner. The reason for the '87 install was that Mercedes updated the EZL injection system at that time.
With both the four and six cylinder engines, the response by owners that have pulled the resistor has been decidedly mixed and I have yet to see someone do a dyno test, before and after. Some owners report less performance while other give it a thumbs up. Given the age and condition of our cars, that's probably an accurate reflection of the effect.
Since you're browsing Rik's (2Phast) site, he's since sold the 2.6 and he removed the "cold air intake" since the design did not improve upon the stock air cleaner/scoop system.
