Right Turn Signal staying illuminated while Headlights On

Hey guys,

I’ve got a strange situation with my 91 190E 2.3. All of my lights work properly, except for one specific scenario.

1) Turn headlights on

2) Turn on right turn signal

3) The indicator and the front/rear right turn signals stay solidly light instead of blinking. The only way to reset this is to turn off the lights and turn off the ignition.

When the headlights are off, all turn signals work properly. I’ve checked every bulb and there is not one that doesn’t work. What could be the issue here; I’m stumped!

This sort of issue is almost always a bad ground connection at the offending light that shares a ground with the light that is coming on (in your case your turn signal).
So the negative pole of your headlight (it's local ground) is pulled up to a higher voltage when the headlight is turned on and that in turn finds a path to ground thru the turn signal bulb.

If you have a voltmeter, you can confirm this by measuring the voltage at the negative pole of your headlight.
Solution is generally supplying a proper ground to the headlight. So it is in the wiring.

- Cheers!

Thank you so much for the advice; I checked all of the connections, and sure enough, the ground on the turn signal was not making contact. Readjusted, and now everything is working properly again without having to spend any money! Woohoo!

Cheers,
Brad
