1986 190E 2.3L Tachometer Broken
Hi. Although my car is automatic and a tach really isn't important, I was wondering if someone knows what I can do to fix it. The needle is constantly at "0". Is this a cable or electronic driven tachometer? What should I check which might be the problem? Thank You.

The tach is electrical, so either the fuse, physical wiring connector or the sensor is at fault. The only cable driven gauge is the speedo. Early, pre-85 models have a "live" oil line for the pressure, but after that they were electrical.

From the rear of the instrument cluster, the tach signal comes through the fuse box, then to the fender mounted ignition control unit, then from the distibutor coil.
