I really need help now!!

I went and picked up my 92 190e 2.3 tonight.
I test drove the car with no problems and then it was Maryland inspected.
On the drive home the radio started beebing at me and the little red
light on the radio was flashing, the radio was off.
The headlights were getting dimmer and the car was unresponsive.
I turned off the headlights and the car ran better.
As I turned into my drive the car died.
now the car will not start , the interior lights seem to be bright.
the altinator and the battery were just replaced.
I would like to keep the car but I may ask the dealer to take it back and
refund me.
It is a small used lot in PA and I am not sure they will cooperate.
Any Ideas??

Pete

It's the charging system. It could be an issue with the serpentine belt, the alternator, the voltage regulator or . . . but it's the charging system.

were would I find the voltage regulator.
I do not yet have a sevice manual.
I have about 12 volts at the battery today after sitting all night.
I got the car started, there was a problem with the aftermarket alarm.
with the car at idle the battery shows around 10 volts , this tells me
that the altinator or regulator is not doing its job.
there are 2 wires from the rear of the altinator , 1 large and 1 small.
the large wire reads the same voltage as the battery.
I am beginning to think the new altinator went bad.
the voltage at the battery with the key off is constant , there is no drain.
so I doubt there is a bad short in the system anywhere.

hope I get this solved soon , I want to drive my new car.
