My grandpa is gone :(

Like the title says today I lost my grandfather that gifted me his 190e back in 2019. I initially joined these forums for help in restoring the car so that he could drive it again someday but that day never came due to his health. I am terribly saddened and crying as I cruise my w201 across town.

Though he never got to drive it he did see and approve of all the changes I made to the car and was proud that I actually got it working when almost all of our family had doubt. Here are just a few pics over the years

Very sorry about your loss Betterdaze. This 190E is just a material thing but surely it represents something much more than that.
Your grandfather will live in your memories forever thru it.

You have done a great job with the car over the years.

My condolences to you and your family.

I'm sending you and your family my love and prayers BetterDaze during this difficult time. Your grandfather will live on through your car. Every time you drive your car, your grandfather will be driving with you. That can never be taken from you. My W201 is my connection to my passed away father as well. You've done a really great job getting it back on the road and looking so terrific as well. Love our shared midnight blue color. Here's to may more years of helping you keep your car on the road and running properly. BTW, in an effort to cheer you up, I was browsing the MBUSA website the other day and I found out that our great midnight blue color is a now $6,500 option as part of the MB manufactur program for the G wagen.

Thank you 190efan and dolucasi! I appreciate your kind words, encouragement and collective wisdom on these cars. I have a few projects planned for my car this summer that I’m excited for so I’ll be posting more soon

Betterdaze,
Cars can be so much more than transportation from a to b. Cars that have a family history in some ways can embody the essence of a family member, because they are part of so many memories.
They can be a physical reminder of someone no longer present.
I think it’s great that you are cherishing and honoring something that directly represents your grandfather.
It’s like you will be able to keep a metaphoric piece of him around representing him.
Great title for a thread as well.

I am sorry for your loss. He is sitting in the passenger seat as you drive that gorgeous Mercedes. Thank you for your post - reminds me to cherish my loved ones today and be deliberate about it.

1990 Mercedes 190E
Please accept my condolences also. It does seem that your grandpa had a very fine taste in cars to choose a 190E in Midnight Blue. You have done a great job with the restoration and your grandad would be proud of you for preserving this lovely Mercedes.
