Check engine light
Hello to all,
I am new to the forum, looks like everyone here has a great wealth of info to offer, I hope someone can help. I have recently purchased a 1991 190e 2.3L, the car has been sitting for a couple of years and has a few problems. I've looked through the forums and have been able to correct some things but now I am stuck. I am trying to get the vehicle to pass emmisions testing and didn't notice the check engine light not working. At first I thought someone had just removed the bulb but thats not the case. I did check and replace the bulb but it does not come on, even when I first turn the key. My next step was to read out the engine codes by using a homemade flasher. I was able to get codes for the restraint system and A/C system. The A/C system gave me an error pointing to the engine temp. sensor. (The car does have cold start problems.) So I think by replacing that sensor that should help. But as far as the check engine light, when I try to read the codes, I connect to the 8 pin terminal and get a solid light(on the code reader), pressing the interrogate button does nothing.
Any suggestions would be great!
