Due to a few issues I've determined I should probably eliminate the OVP relay as a potential cause, and the symptoms of the car agrees.
The part number for mine is 201 540 32 45 but all the ones I can find new are 9 pin part 201 540 3745.
I did end up buying a 9 pin thinking there might be blank spaces for the 2 pins that would simply go unused, but it doesn't fit at all. What's the play here, is there a way to get a new replacement at a reasonable price? These 9 pins seem to be priced reasonably, but I can only seem to find expensive second hand relays that match mine, and I don't see the point in replacing it with a part that is just as old as my car.
I have a 1992 2.0 190E.

Since you have a European market car, you might try the MB Classic Center in Germany. If they don't have it, they might be able to tell you where you might find it. The 2.0 engine was never sold in the U.S. market.
I might first risk a used one due to the price difference. I have found an online store that seems to sell a new one for £100 which is a hell of a lot.

If all else fails (meaning dealership/classic center etc.) I wonder if you can change your socket to a socket that mates to a 9 pin later version. Meaning some of the pins would be not connected.
You can probably match the circuit drawing on both parts to just connect the common pins. There must be a writeup on this somewhere on the internet.
Will require some soldering. If you attempt such a thing you must disconnect the components (ECU, EZL etc that the OVP is connected to. Otherwise you may damage those components.
That's an idea, it does make sense since I believe the extra pins are potentially for functions that are not present in the car, it is likely that others have done this already so hopefully the information is out there.
I'll try to buy a replacement, but this might be a suitable backup solution.

I would be warry of buying used in this case. That might turn out to be only a temporary fix. If you wind needing to buy more than 1 used OVP relay, you really don't wind up saving very much. Imho, it would be better to buy a new one if you can find it.

I think this is a good idea. As more W201 parts become NLA, we're going to have to start to get creative with what is currently available that might not be an exact fit.
