Just wondering, how practical are these cars?

Thinking about gutting my e30 and getting a daily...just don't know much about these little cars.

Any advice is very helpful, thanks.

I think most 16 valve owners will tell you it's not a practical daily driver and that sentiment has been constantly repeated in Mercedes Enthusiasts Magazine's long term test over the past couple of years. It's a great car for drives where it can stretch it's legs and get the rev's up, but not a good choice for an urban commuter. You'd want to make the miles that you put on the clock to count on a sport sedan approaching 18-19 years old.

MTI's is enough

I think MTI usually gives excellent advice and is extremely well versed in the 190 realm as well as other classes. I wouldn't imagine much deviation from his remarks.

more to the maint.

it is not so much as to the 16v being a good daily driver, but more to the distance traveled compared to maintenance cost. Having a car that is designed to travel long distances with a higher substained speed then most does not always lend it self to stop and go traffic.

Yeah, I can understand that...from what i've gathered from your guys' opinions, this car seems too much like it's rival, the e30 M3...which I do know is a very expensive car to maintain. Not looking for something with an S14...looks like i'll go another direction...thanks guys!

Body kit

You could always buy a 2.6 with a 5 speed stick (for performance) and get a body kit. I have a 2.6 which I drive the hell out of (at 250K miles now) I drive about 130 miles a day. Cost of maint. is not too bad considering.
just a thought.

My 16v is my daily driver (and only driver). The only thing I can say I dislike about it so far is the mileage. I'm only getting about 15mpg in the city. Otherwise, it's a fun fun fun car.
