OEM Windshield Shortage
Hi All -- I have been having a recurrent issue with my HUD that MB refuses to address (I've been told I need to wait for a software update that has continually been delayed -- going on more than a year now). Unfortunately, I now have a damaged windshield from a stray rock and my local dealer is saying there is a backorder for an OEM windshield. Local parts department states there are no windshields in the US or Germany (hard to believe). Previous customers waited 6mo+ and eventually just went aftermarket. For some context, I have a GLE53 with acoustic comfort package. Has anyone had any success obtaining an OEM windshield? Thank you

Yes took 8 weeks to get mine, acoustic glass and HUD. Dealer had one in stock but it was chipped. 6w later another one came from Germany and it was cracked in the bottom corner. A week later I finally got a new one installed.
There is no aftermarket glass as far as I know.

Was this recently? A family member had the similar issue -- he waited over 6 months for his. Finally the service manager reached out to MB directly and they re routed one to their dealership after months of calls. Shocked your dealer had one in stock.

I would check with Safelite. I went on their webpage and could have one installed tomorrow. I have not had them replace my 2025 GLE 53 Coupe glass, but they have been great on my other vehicles when needed. Check with your local Safelite shop on acoustic glass as that was not an option when trying to schedule online.

I tried safelite. Website said it can be done on the upcoming weekend. Then after I booked it, I got an email saying it said I would be getting generic glass. Then I got a call saying it’s back ordered and need to pay in full to order it. Didn’t bother to follow up.
But I’d try safelite because supposedly there is no generic glass, and the price was half of dealer.

I hope that doesn’t happen to me… I managed to get a hold of the local shop it self and the person confirmed the correct part number 167-811-2400 and work order shows OEM. Fingers crossed.

Just an update for anyone who happens to come across this thread in the future -- do not trust what Safelite says... they called me today and said the windshield is on backorder without an ETA...
The person I spoke to seemed confused when I told her that the other person said that Safelite has their own warehouses where they stock OEM glass etc.

I own a coupe but I waited 3 weeks for an OEM windshield via a local glass company. My insurance recommended Safelite, I declined, they were cool with it. I'm located in Massachusetts.
edit: small rock chip cracked the corner of my windshield....at 4k miles, very annoying.
