Wireless Entry / Remote Start

Has anyone out there installed a wireless entry or a remote start system in their 190E? What brand or model did you use? How does it work?

I did

Installed keyless entry/remote start on an '85 & '86 190e 2.3 8v. If you don't have factory security the install is easy, only 45 minutes before I was testing the remote start function. With security it takes much longer, a lot longer. ICD manufactured the units I used. Available from JC Whitney for cheap. That said, I also installed one on my minivan and it rarely worked. Just changed it out for a Bulldog remote/keyless, works much better. Look for on-board relays and dedicated lock/unlock buttons if you can find them. You may have to hunt around for diagrams for wiring the locks, not all systems deal with the vacum lock wiring. Good Luck!

I had a Clifford Intelliguard 7000 put into my '87 300E, with remote start. I don't worry too much about people putting bombs into my car anymore, but in the Winter it's great for heating up the car before I leave.

The Clifford system (which is also an alarm of some complexity) will try to start the engine 3 times. If it doesn't catch on the 3rd try, it will give up. It will also not run it for more than about 15 minutes without some user intervention.

If someone steps on the brake pedal (such as to steal your car), the engine shuts off and the immobilizer kicks in, until you use the remote again, or the key.

People haven't seen many remotely started cars. It's still a conversation piece.

Not an install I would want to do myself, but not rocket science either. You'll get a warning label for inside the engine compartment. It alerts mechanics that there is a remote starter on the vehicle.
