Strange noise
My 1990 190E with a 2.6 litre engine is making a strange, intermittent noise. The car has 311,000 km's (180,00+ miles) on it. The noise sounds like it is coming from the driver's side of the engine compartment. It lasts only a few seconds, has occurred when the car is idling but the sound also speeds up with the engine rpm. It does not affect the performance of the car. And it sounds very much like the sound that the windshield washer pump makes, though it is definitely not that. The sound, while intermittent, has most often occurred at start up. No recent work has been performed on the car. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Maybe a video/audio of the sound as you are moving the phone around would help so we can identify and locate the sound more precisely. Can we assume this is a RHD car?
