Smell Coming In
I have this problem whereby the smel from the engine comes into the car everytime I stop at a traffic light. It could be petrol or the motor oil. Once it's moving there's no smell. Sent to a few mechanics and they alll claim that there's no leak or whatsoever.
Anyone knows if there are any holes to be plugged or something? Am guessing maybe behind the dashboard there could be a few. Maybe some rotten rubber plugs that needs replacing?
Let me know ASAP as this has been giong on for a while and it makes me sick!

engine smell in car
I had this problem with my m/benz. finall i was able to correct this problem by renewing the rubber hoses leading from under the air cleaner to the rocker (valve) cover.

You may have exhaust leak that is coming into the car. Does your car sound louder? Jack the car up properly and fire the engine to see where your leak may be. Doing this in cold weather would be easier to find the hot exhaust.

Trunk seal?
Just a thought, I don't know the age or condition of your car. But if it only happens when you're stopped, even without an exhaust leak, a worn seal around the trunk would let exhaust in. Mercedes are more prone to this because of the shape of the trunk lid. Also broken taillights etc.
As far as being sick, keep in mind that carbon monoxide poison accumulates in the body. It doesn't completely go away when you get in to the fresh air, the more you are exposed to it, the less it takes to make you ill or kill you later. Even brief exposures during your daily commute will take their toll, so check for rust in the trunk area, bad trunk gaskets, broken tail lights etc.
