W208 Instrument CLuster LED problem...RECALL

I filed a complaint with the nhtsa.gov for the faulty display readouts that many of us have/are experiencing. It IS A SAFETY problem since it you can't see which gear you are in and that could cause a driver error that could lead to an accident.
The more of us complain the more likely they are to issue a recall and require the MBUSA to cover our this problem.

Call 1-888-327-4236 and have your VIN # ready so they can file the complaint. (Other Mercedes models have had this issue recalled and fixed)

There could be re-imbursement

if you paid out of pocket to have yours fixed already. I just think it should be addressed by MB.

Thanks

Wow, didn't think it was a common problem. Was just about to take mine to a private shop to repair. I'll file complaint and wait for awhile now.

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up.

My LED's burned out on both sides. I can't believe that MB doesn't do anything about it.

In the BMW 740, it's also a common problem, but if you contact BMWNA, they take care of your problem for free. Sometimes they make you pay labor, which is about $250 at the most. But its def. better than paying $1k+

I had the exact same pixel problem on my 00 CLK430 and I paid a guy in Germany while I was stationed there to fix it for me 100 bucks and it only took him about 30 min to do the job. I found him on Ebay and just drove to his house.

I will definitely call in as well in case they go out again.

This is a very common issue also on the E class

Had mine (01 E55) fixed for less than $300. Dealer wanted $1,200. Here is the company:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...spagenameZWDVW

Easy and great service.

Thanks for info Wagondad...BUT

It's just the principle that MB should take care of this if they wish to uphold their quality and reputation. But I will look into BBA if I get tired of waiting! Still think ALL owners should complain WHETHER OR NOT they've had their cluster fixed. IT'S THE PRINCIPLE and it pisses me off.

Hope everyoneis mentioning the SAFETY aspect here...

You could be in a situation in which you can't see what gear car is in at a crucial moment! That's what they are looking for: The safety issue!

Transmission electronics...RECALL

Let's get on the wagon and call in about the transmission electronics, too. I not only have the LED issues with my instrument cluster, but my doggone transmission "sticks" in certain gears -- 2nd sometimes, 3rd sometimes. Really starting to p*ss me off. I've read plenty about the design of the "cupholder" and the high probability of spilling liquid into the transmission area, causing issues with the transmission electronics. According to NHTSA, at least 10 people have filed complaints, but they tend to deny them, stating that there's no safety issue. Holy mackerel...being stuck in 3rd gear is definitely a safety issue. Just try to get out of an idiot's way or even leave a stoplight in third gear. Not happening... I'm definitely filing about both my instrument cluster AND my squirrely transmission. Please help me if you have the issue, too...

Dude...THat's Why Many Of Us are Complaining To NHTSA!

You Should Too!!!

But if you want to get it fixed...these guys can do it for about $250, but you have to send it to them.

Thanks for the info! I read the post a few weeks ago and low and behold my instrument cluster started to go. Damn it...I can't read what gear I am in anymore.

Anyways...just filed my complaint.

mate, live in Noosa, Australia. not going to call the US to report my issue.
MB should recognise their build quality issues and assist, without customers needing to petition them.
have however located a repairer - 'Austronic LCFS' in Moorabbin, Vic.
If any aussies have used them i would appreciate your feedback.
