Command Upgrade 2007 S550

After reading the forum about command and navigation upgrade, I took the info to my service advisor. He scheduled me for the upgrade to command console and new maps. The results are amazing. The "birds eye" view is great. I'm not sure it is the best in the industry but it sure is an improvement over the original!!!

My question now is, how can we talk the dealers into continued upgrades of command console. My advisor said new disks come to dealer every month. Would be nice to get the upgrade annually.

Thanks again to the early crusaders.

I refused to let upgrade my command system. The service manager told me last week the rear view camera will not operate anymore with the latest upgrade. It may take some time till this problem is fixed from MB. I prefer the rear view camera instead have a 3d view available.

The rearview camera works post-upgrade - the parking assist lines are now different - but there as well.

Europeans have parking issues too?

aschb: I find it interesting that Mercedes Benz has also engineered out the 'active' portion of parking assist lines in their recent Telematics update (re: pre-MY08 S/CL) for EUROPE, per your post. This update will disable the original active feature in MY07 221/216 models...thought the rear view camera remains operational with (fixed?) blue lines. We had heard in this Forum that Americans were getting 'confused' with the 'active' colored lines and damaging their wheels, etc, when using this NEW active feature for parking. As a result, they would complain to MBUSA and perhaps started talking of litigation/class actions (my guess only). Apparently, MB AG has now decided to pull the plug universally on the 'active' portion of this feature, even depriving the technically savvy Germans & Swiss of its benefits. What is that all about? Is MB planning to improve it and re-release it later on? Or is this it...early death for this short-lived innovative technology? Z356

Nav System

My latest upgrade keeps the yellow and blue lines in reverse but eliminated the parallel parking all to gether. The nav vol doesn't mute the radio anymore. Also I have noticed weird directions on the routing. Don't know the cause of that.

Could this lack of parallel parking be from the fact that the new cars are equipped with the park assist feature? The corresponding driver aid would be available at the instrument cluster on new cars. MB should have activated that when doing this "update" for the rear view camera. Or perhaps it is just the SCN coding for the IC, plus a SW update the service shop should have performed along with the Comand update?

park assist requires distronic plus as it uses radar to perform it's function. Was park assist available on pre aug08 build distronic equipped cars?

No, Park Assist came only "recently". I did not think of the case without Distronic Plus but with the rear view camera. Actually some MB documents claim the Parkt Assist being exclusive to rear view camera, any owner having a new car with both?

This is an old thread but I figured out some info related to Comand SW update and issues with the Dynamic Rear View camera. These quotes talk about missing parallel parking option on the menu or missing parking guiding lines.

There appears to be a chance for a coding issue, I thought it would make both of the above disappearing at the same time but perhaps it may be one or the other only. In any case, the missing parallel parking option and the missing parking guidance lines can be reactivated (after Comand SW update made them disappear) by recoding the Comand settings as:
- Rear view camera installed to "YES" and
- Reversing camera to "Camera with parking assist".

I wonder if owners still are lacking some of the Rear view camera features after Comand update and if this could be a resolution to the issue.

this is the second time im going to the dealer for this....

I have a 2007 (March Build) S550, and am trying to get the Command update. Mercedes Benz of Escondido (San Diego, CA) is telling me that its an actual hardware piece that is different on the MY Cars, i know from what i have read that that isnt true. They have no update!!!

Any suggestions?

To my understanding, i must buy new updated navtec DVD, and then have them flash update the computer, correct?

Please help!

That is correct. There is another update coming out 8 February according to my service advisor. It will correct the arrival time problem with the new nav upgrade.

For those of us who just purchased v.5, we should get this new version FREE since the V.5 was defective. I'm going in today to get my car. I'll ask if I can get that for free since I just bought it 3 months ago or so.

Just a clarification to this question and my earlier response (cannot edit the response any more). I assume we both used incorrect terminology. I guess Park Assist refers to the "old Parktronic" that was radar based, using the sensors Distronic Plus too is using (instead of ultra-sound sensors) and featuring the similar functionality as the "old" ultrasound sensors (just longer range or so). This equals option code 229.

This of course was available from day one with Distronic Plus.

The "new" feature would be "Advanced Parking Guide". This equals option code 230 and comes standard with Distronic Plus today (instead of 229).
