okay, I just read on the AMG website that Panormaic sunroof adds 100kg extra to the car, which is about 221 lbs.
Can anyone confirm this?
Mercedes website states that E63 has curb weight of 4035 lbs , but is that with or without the panoramic sunroof ?
If that 4035 pounds does not include the pano roof, then an E63 with pano roof has curb weight of 4256 lbs, which is heavier than CLS63 of 4210 lbs...

Pano roof confirmed heavier
Thanks JRocket.
So this means that the pano roof does add about 200 lbs extra on top of the advertised curb weight of 4035. Mercedes defines curb weight as follows:
1) Weight of the car with standard equipment PLUS
2) Weight of a 150 pound driver PLUS
3) 90% Full tank of fuel
I never realized that getting the pano roof option adds 200 pounds???? Mercedes should've compensated for the weight difference by reducing weight somewhere else...

I had to edit my first post. When I weighed my car last night I had my daughter and her car seat still in there which came out to 4200 even,so I just weighed her and her seat and that came out to exactly 40lbs.
So bone stock, nothing in the car with 1/4 tank it is 4160.Scale goes by 20lb increments as well.Should be fairly accurate, its checked often and is certified.

Yes Pano roof does add alot of weight to the car. I believe they add some additional reinforcement. I was suprised when I found out my C class sedan is lighter than a C class coupe. I figured its that pano roof and additional support for all the glass on the hatch.

On a scale at the local dragstrip my '04 E55 with pano weighed 4220lbs. This is with approx 1/2 tank fuel.

i always wondered what the cost of the roof is not the weight
if you get a flying rock on the highway to land just right and bust your roof, how much does that set you back?

With no offense intended, does 200 pounds really matter?
You're driving one of the premier luxury/sports barges (oops, I mean grocery getters) available. There is a price (beyond money) to pay for gadgets.
I think it's a great trade off.

Plus The PANO ROOF makes the E class IMO, best sickest feature available, wish we had it on the CLS. The PANO roof for me would be a MUST. On the 63 just take out your filtersand the extra 10-20 hp will eat the 200lbs ez. We are running high 3's to mid 4s 0-60 all day long so the heavy CLS still rockets .

depends on who you ask....
I bought the E55 to have one of the quickest/fastest sedans available within reason, when I was shopping for the E55 I knew I wanted to stay light and not go with ALL the options, especiallly the pano roof since that option probably adds the most weight of them all...
100-200 pounds does make a difference, I can, without question feel the differnece in my car when I have a passenger riding with me....
200 pounds in these cars can mean 2 MPH trap speeds....

Pano roof or not?
The extra weight is 220 lbs, and I think this will make a difference of maybe 0.2 seconds on 1/4 mile and definately less trap speed because the engine will have to work harder to accelerate the car.
True, but if you run against a car with removed filters and no pano roof, then you become automatically handicaped with 220 lbs extra weight.
Maybe someone should set up a race between two stock E55s or E63s, one with pano and one without...
Also, try to equalize all other factors, such as, same options, having same weight drivers (or add extra weight to the car with the lighter driver), same amount of fuel, etc...

Enterprise rent-a-car!!!
okay, I just read on the AMG website that Panormaic sunroof adds 100kg extra to the car, which is about 221 lbs.

40 kg ?????
On the AMG website, it lists the pano roof load is an extra 100 kg = 221 pounds !!!!
Other members on here seem to have verified it as well by weighting their cars.

So, if we can all agree that the Pano roof does add weight to your car, somewhere between 80 and 220 pounds I guess , why do RFLOW and DJE55 have the fastest (non-NOS) times on dragtimes. They both have pano roofs.. Am I to believe that their cars would be even faster if they didn't have this option.. (And don't think I haven't thought about trying to get an aftermarket version of a pano roof to make my car faster )
