CLK Black Series Wheels

I have a 2005 SL55 and was wanting to know if the wheels from a CLK63 Black Series would fit. Also how do you think they would look on my black SL?

Front 9x19 ET 25 Tire 265/30/19

Rear 9.5x19 ET 31 Tire 285/30/19

I keep trying different looks. What do you think?

Thumbs up

I think a 5 spoke brings out the best in the SL, its all a matter of taste. You also need to go a tad lower.

mf1 is right, 5 spoke is the best and you do need to go a tad lower as well as go up to a 20. Check out my previous SL55 with the Lorinser LM5's, 20's and lowered with links.

I believe the other....

posters are right....19's are just not big enough on the SL, and your ride height has got to come down to compensate fo it. As for the CLK Black wheels, I still don't think they are big enough, although it is a nice look. Also, the offsets are such that it's going to take some serious spacer issues to get it right.
Just my .02, which is about what it's worth....

I agree that 20s look great on the SL. They are problematic if you live in the land of the giant pot hole though. On the other hand, I have trouble keeping my 18s from getting bent.

I think 19 is just right. 18 is too small, 20 is too big for other than show purposes.

The Black Series wheels give the SL a proper OEM look. But originally it was delivered with 18" aluminium multispokes so that makes perfect sense.

I'm looking into getting a set for my SL as well After seeing your pic

The original turbine wheels had a offset of 30mm for the front and 33mm for the rear. The turbine wheels were 8.5" wide for the front and 9.5" wide for the rear. The Black series wheels are a 25mm offset and 9" wide for the front and 31mm and 9.5" wide for the rear. Using no spacer on the front the outer edge of the black series wheel is .44685" farther out than the turbine wheel. Using no spacer in the rear the outer edge of the black series wheel is .0787 farther out than the turbine wheel. Using a 10mm spacer in the rear the black series wheel is .47244" farther out that the turbine wheel. The 19" wheels are a good size for the SL. 18s look too small and 20s don't ride as good. The SL being a GT car and not a sports car should ride good and with the lighter weight of the forged wheels it rides better than ever.

Wow! I think the CLK63 black series wheels looks amazing on your SL!

They blend in great with the lines on the front grill and side vents.

Do you know the weights of the wheels? And what size tires did you go with?

I don't know the weight of the wheels. They are mounted with Hankook V12 255x35x19 and 285x30x19. Thanks this is the 4th set of wheels that I have tried and I think I have found a keeper.

I would imagine the AMG Black Series wheels would be a little lighter than the average MB wheel. But you never know since the AMG 030 multi-piece twin-spoke light alloy wheels weigh more than the standard MB wheel.

Yeah, I've seen all the wheels you went through. I agree and glad you finally found a keeper!

Personally I like the 5-spoke rims. BTW, OEM BS wheels are a bit-h to maintain and scratch eaily. I know from personal experience. When it comes time for new tires (still using my OEM Corsa's) I'm dumping my OEM BS rims.

If you like 5 spokes you should buy my Zaubers. I know that the will fit a BS and with the 305 tires you may have some extra traction. $2000 and they are yours.

I'm tempted-does your price also include the P-Zero's?

Yes the only thing extra would be the shipping cost, or you can come and pick them up.

I have found out that the black series wheels are 24lbs for the front and 28lbs. for the rear. The stock SL55 turbine wheels are 29lbs. front and 33lbs rear.

Try looking here on the forum classified and on eBay. You might even post a wanted add here on the forum. I bought my wheels from Graham Rahal when he changed the wheels on his Black Series. I still think they are the best looking wheels for a SL, even if they are a bit of a pain to clean.

Also, what size are the CLK BS wheels? 19" or 20"?
