Please share your discoveries with us. Many of us would like to enable CarPlay. A year and a half ago the installer for my radar detector told me that there was an option for CarPlay available but it seemed rather Rube Goldberg. It involved flicking an external switch and installing a separate unit. I think the total cost would have been about $700. It was certainly not a seamlessly integrated solution.

I am used to CarPlay from our other MB's and am working on getting this setup in our car. Very annoying that a new model is so pre-historic when it comes to interface options...
Have it working 95% but the issue is the lack of dedicated Command buttons on GT models...

It is kinda silly that in 2019, there are still cars without CarPlay/Android Auto offered. However, the aftermarket has addressed that, but the smartbox waters are still a bit murky, and if you are not up for DIY, you need to find a reputable car audio shop, not the big box variety, i.e., Best Buy, but independent car audio specialists. I wouldn't bother looking with Crutchfield either, but there are plenty of vendors of smartboxes for retrofitting CarPlay/Android Auto.
At this point, I would say wireless CarPlay is viable via retrofit, as I've been able to do it with a 2015 E400. It's only been a few weeks, but it's been great so far.
With the AMG GT, you may also be able to replace the monitor with an Android unit for both CarPlay and Android. You'll just need to find a good installer willing to take on the challenge or be willing to DIY.

It's not just Benz, all the other manufacturers have been trying to do their own thing. I have to say, the Apple and Google engineers have the whole UX down compared to what the auto manufacturers have been able to do.

My wife's Bolt as well. Heck I rented a beater ****box at the Monterey AirPort while attending an AMG Driving Class a couple of years ago and IT HAD CARPLAY! All Mercedes Benz and other holdouts had to do was permit CarPlay and Android auto...and then people could chose and everyone would have been happy. But many car manufacturers have an attitude that if we don't invent it then we're not doing it.

Up until about a year ago, I tolerated CarPlay limited to Apple Maps, but as soon as Waze was available, I can't imagine driving without CarPlay or Android Auto. The auto manufacturers should stop trying to develop UI for their infotainment systems and contract to Apple or Google, who seem to understand UX for drivers much better than the car manufacturers. Don't get me started on the clunky MB nav or voice recognition...

In my GT, I have the iPhone on a windshield mount next to the A-pillar. This gives me the COMAND screen and the iPhone screen, each of which has different content.
Plus, Siri is still accessible by holding the steering wheel talk button, which is very convenient.

I emailed them to ask if its still available etc and if so is it just the headunit, waiting to hear back.

BBS63, I have a 2018 GT S and I emailed them as well yesterday. I'll post any response here. Did you get a response back in May '21?

I have this in my 2018 GTR. Easy install and awesome quality. CARPLAY and Android Auto. Uses the existing microphone, so no need to run wires for that. Steering controls and all other controls and camera works as they did before.
