Comand 2.5 upgrade
Hi all,
I have 2001 S430 with Comand system with cd based navigation system, and I would like to upgrade to newer version of Comand system that supports DVD based navigation. I have asked many MB dealers, but they all said it is impossible. Some questions I have are listed below.
1. Will it fit?
2. Will it be plug and play? If not, will it be difficult to rewire? I wish all connectors are the same......
3. Will cd changer and voice command system still work?
4. Euro system and US system, will Euro system work in US?
I would greatly appreciate your help.

command 2.5 upgrade
With a 1/05 nav disc and a software update from my Benz dealer, I can now plan a trip outside my disc region. The new disc, and the software update, allow me to get the nav data, trip time, distance, routes etc for anywhere in the US. It's almost as good as a DVD. Interstates and main roads are listed and shown for regions outside your disc region. For more detail, you have to put in the disc for the region you are in. 2002 S Class 2.5 Command

---> no it will most definitely NOT be plug and play
If not, will it be difficult to rewire?
---> to wire up the newstyle comand isn't that difficult - BUT it won't work properly in your car

---> yes it will
As posted above - it might be cheaper to trade in your car for a newer one...your car is not compatible with the updated DVD comand systems.

As posted above - it might be cheaper to trade in your car for a newer one...your car is not compatible with the updated DVD comand systems.

RE Above post: The upgrade I was referring to, is simply to leave the old Command 2.5 exactly where it is and add the new 1/05 CD's and get a software upgrade from the Benz dealer. Everything, ie steering wheel, plus works exactly like it did before, but now I can plan and see a trip anywhere in the US.
