How should I improve my SLK55 HK system???
I am not happy at all with my HK system in my SLK55! The high (frequency) is almost none existence and the bass sounds terrible coming from mostly the driver side door. And what surround? There is no sound coming from the rear! I have tried HDCD and DVD audio but still nothing!
Anyway, I went to the best car audio shop here in Vancouver and this is what they suggested. Please, have a look and make any comments or suggestions you have.
JL Cleansweep processor
Audison LRx 1.400 (650W RMS @2ohms) to run a Focal K2 40 kx sub (16", 500W RMS) in the spare tire compartment
Audison LRx 2.500 (2 X 200W RMS @ 4 ohms) to run the Focal 165 K3 (200W RMS), the 4" Midrange and the 6.5" woofer in the doors and the 1.75" tweeter in the custom a-pillar
Sound Dampening and custom trunk (fiber-glass/wood sealed enclosure and matching carpet grille)
OR go for the Audison VRx 6.420 (2 X 220W @ 4 ohms & 1 X 430 W @ 2 ohms) instead of the above two amps.
My main concern is the solid section between the seats and the trunk. How will it sound???

Nothing wrong with what they want to do. Don't skimp on the quality of the wiring and add some kind of equalization (Audio Control DQT or DQX). Very top of the line system. I am using Zapco Competition Series Amplifiers with Symbilink for my 2004 CLK 500. I think it is the best application for what you need to get the best sound out of a Mercedes. You will also need a capacitor. The factory alternator is high output at 150 amps, but it might be strained with all the amplification you are putting in. I will be putting in a Hybrid 35 Farad Capacitor from Stinger to resolve this. Best of luck.

Though i have an SLK230 (2000) i just installed a 12" in my spare tire well. And let me tell you... It sounds great! I could only imagine that the slk55 will sound even better. The spare tire well is a great spot for the sub, however there is one bit that you need to check if you go through with this install. Under the car, the spare tire well tends to vibrate from the bass. I installed my whole setup myself, and i noticed that after sealing everything up. Best way to solve the problem is to install a brace running across the spare well under ther car. However if you plan to keep your hearing for a few more years, haha, you don't even need the brace because its noticable only under extremely high bass. Check out my install on Benzworld.com
You should also dynomat the lid. (I went low budget and stuffed everything with fiberglass left over from the install)
