Yes, people have, you may want to use the "search" function here at mbworld for further information.

Mike, here are some Ipod upgrade kit part numbers which are available from Mercedes-Benz in Germany. Have not figured out the MBUSA part numbers yet.

C-class (starting 4/2004), CLK (starting 7/2004): B6 782 42 13

This one costs 157 Euro and works with steering wheel controls and display in the instrument cluster.

New M-Class: B6 782 42 16

E-class and CLS (only with COMAND): B6 782 42 02

new SLK (only with COMAND): B6 782 42 09

Current part number for US-spec M-class is B6 782 42 01. Likely differs from Euro M-class because of different radio choices; the C- and CLK-classes will probably have the same differences.

That's also the part number for the OEM Euro W164 M-class. It's also listed on the website in Germany.

The number I posted is for the retrofit kit for M-Classes. That's B6 782 42 16. (Different for C and CLK).

What's the difference between retrofit kit and the non-retrofit kit? The 42 01 part sure looks like a retrofit kit (comes with tape, screws, adapter wiring harnesses).

So from what you posted, it seems the MBUSA part numbers are the same.

yes. Looks like the 42 16 is the current part number, and both are for the same M-Class retrofit kit.

BTW, the W211 kit connects directly to the AUX input on the COMAND and not in the glove compartment. That's why the COMAND is required, for the AUX input only.

Mike, yes, this kit should work for you:

C-class (starting 4/2004), CLK (starting 7/2004): B6 782 42 13

Or, the new MP3 CD-changer for MOST, part 211 something. Then the titles would show in your COMAND.

Retrofit for M

I don't get it, are you saying that the new iPod kit can be spliced into the MCS Harness? I tried "iPod Retrofit" as a search and the other two combos and still the same threads that talk about the release of the technology. Wolf if you can help me out with a thread number or link I would greatly appreciate it.

The M-class kit also connects directly to the aux input on the COMAND or MCS2, as well... it doesn't go to the auxiliary input jack NOR to the auxiliary input separation point! The instructions indicate that the aux cable should be "discarded". Yeah, right!

The M-class retrofit kit discussed above is for the W164 (06+ M-class) only.

For a 99 try e.g. a tape adapter like the Monster iCarPlay, or the new SmartDeck, or the Bipes Automotive direct connect to the Bose audio lines.

Presumably that's for the 42 01? The 42 16 is for the W164 with Audio 20 CD, Audio 50 APS and COMAND/APS (NTG-2). This might explain the different numbers.

New ML350 with iPod integration kit

1. having the ipod hard wired in is a great feature - can't believe more mfgrs/models don't have this yet.
2. ability to integrate ipod into the new 06 ML was a real plus when we compared new suvs
3. having said that, I am a bit disappointed in the ineroperability of the ipod kit. If I just plugged a wire from the ipod to the jack, it's my understanding that I could have then controlled the song/playlist from the ipod itself and had it come through the stereo AUX. With the integration kit, the ipod (although it does charge), is stuck in the glove box and is locked up and can only be controlled through the steering wheel. On that score, the steering wheel controls aren't very intutitive and making changes on the go is a bit of a recipe for a wreck. Once it is running, it is great, but making DJ adjustments on the go is difficult -- and the passenger is left out. The passenger can't really see the screen and definitely can't pick the music. I don't understand why they can't make the dash screen info and steering controls show up on the COMAND unit for either person to access and see.

Considering that is the biggest complaint we have so far with our new 06 ML350, I can't complain. but it seems so obvious that barring a technical impossibility, i can't believe MB didn't make it work through the COMAND.
