Comand or After Market ?????
I am planning on having Steve upgrade my old 97 W210 to have Comand and was wondering what you guys thought about that vs an Alpine or Pioneer based touchscreen - with new amps - speaks, etc.
I like Alpine and know that they have a new Nav soming out in a few months that will be touch screen.
I really like the stcok look of the Comand but would also love a great sound sytem and the newest Nav technology.
OK lets hear it.

Go for comand in combination with the steering wheel controls and IC upgrade...if you do not care about the steering wheel controls - you might be better off with an aftermarket headunit.

With the new instruments and wheel it feels like a completely new car..

i got the upgrade and love it.

I went with a full on computer in the car. The cost would be pretty much the same as if you bought and had command installed. I really like the capabilities of my carputer. GPS, DVD, MP3, XM\Sirius, etc.

Two things.
1. Are you upgrading to steering wheel controls? 97 W210's are absent of the controls.
2. Alpine has a steering wheel control adapter that will retain your controls.
FWIW- I have an AVICN1 and really like it. The Alpine is better in picture quality and the new Alpine Nav unit is head and shoulders above the old unit, but I wanted to get an all in one unit.

Hey Davis449, could you elaborate on your "computer" as to what functions and features it has, how it's different from an system like the eclipse 5435 (all-in-one touchscreen unit), and how much did you get everything done for, including installation, etc. thanks.

Steve
I am still waiting for you to confirm that you can do the ic and steering wheel upgrade in my old (12/96) E420 - I sent Wanda the vin.
You also metioned the possibility of keepting the orig IC and changing out the steering wheel
I can't wait for your SoCal visit!

Nothing MB related (sorry)
David,
Steve has been kind of busy lately - quite some personal things he needed to take care of first.
We will try to get you a reply within a day or two.

:^), That's why I was asking him. If he adds the controls then it would be an issue to get an adapter, if he does not, then he would not have to bother.
