Unhappy Thanks Nokia: Upgraded from 6230 to 6230i and now my command won't talk to it!

I noticed the new 6230i model last week and though it was a great way to gain new features without having to throw out my UHI cradle as it was a just model update. Unfortunately, thanks to the brilliance of Nokia or the lack of flexiblity of MB, the revised model doesn't talk to my '04 command system at all. Talk about adding insult to injury, I drove the bluetooth equipped CLS55 recently and realising all my phone update issue could be gone if I had the latest command. If it was so damn expensive to update command units, I'd have the solution...in the meantime I'm screwed!

Yep, that's right. The the latest version of command in the CLS features bluetooth connectivity to allow bluetooth phones to utilise the cars hands free system.

that would be incorrect. That feature is to attach a bluetooth earpiece ONLY and not a phone.

As I had read about the ear piece function on this forum yesterday, I double checked with the rep at my Benz dealership and he stated that it does replace the need for a UHI kit by allowing bluetooth phones to utilise the car's mic and speaker system. BMW has also implement this feature which I was told by a BMW rep last week. I'm happy to try out the bluetooth functionality next time I'm visiting the dealership. Jeep also has this feature in the new Grand Cherokee (the ones equipped with Sat Nav.) and they are of course a Daimler-Chrysler subsid.

There is an updated UHI cradle that takes 6230 and 6230i. I am using the 6230i on my clk350 with new cradle, no problem so far. I also noticed there is bluetooth button on command but i could not sync the phone with command. Let me know when you have figure it out.

Yeah, if you read my original post, I have a 6230 cradle and have been using it successfully for quite a while. The problem is with the 6230i not the cradle, as it does fit, it's that the SL55 command does not talk to the 6230i.

What a shame. I wonder whether there can upgrade the command software on your SL55 to take 6230i

Either that or I would like a new version command, but I'd probably have to change cars. Either way I'd lose a chunk of change unfortunately...

Chrysler has had it for a long time. It's called Uconnect for them.

BMW has had it for a few months now.

First time it's appeared in a Chrysler product in this country as we're a bit behind. The 300's are only just landing now for example and still not at the dealers yet. I have to upgrade my to sat nav at a cost of about $3000 to get it, which I'm not impressed with as it was an option I'd flagged on my Grand C to the dealer...

WRONG - the original UHI cradle for the Nokia 6230 has been revised by mercedes and has been replaced by a UHI cradle that IS compatible with the 6230 AND the 6230i...
MB bleutooth is not to be compared with BMW and or JEEP bleutooth...the MB bleutooth is only meant to pair with the MB handset and an/or earphone...

Is the MB bluetooth earpiece only for privacy purposes? Do you mean the MB Bluetooth have no plans for connection to current bluetooth phones that are compatible to the command but needing cradles?

greetingz,
Steve, thanks for filling in the blanks- you are the man with MB electronics. That still annoys the cr*p out of me that mercedes did that after having bought one through you last December (you got Miro to drop it down to me when you visit Aust). Mind you at least I don't have a dead end scenario with the phone if it's just the cradle. What on earth did they alter in the cradle if it works with the 6230 and not the updated i version? I thought the cradle was a just a very basic adapter not much more.

Interesting on the bluetooth, I had the MB rep in my office today and mentioned that I had people on the net arguing with me that MB bluetooth only allows for a earphone to be used. He still tells me it's a generic bluetooth interface for bluetooth compatible phones and suggest I come down and test it on an S class they have on the floor. I will investigate this further next time I visit the dealership in case it's something new in this market (I doubt it though).

Hey also Steve, I am really jealous of the latest version Command fitted in the SL (which seems to be similar to other models both cosmetically and software-wise). Is it at all feasable to upgrade an '04 spec car to it?

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I don't know what has changed inside the cradle but apparently Nokia figured it would do something WILD on the 6310i's to make these kind of changes necessary...the updated cradles are only available since 2 or 3 months...

Upgrading to the DVD comand costs almost as much as trading your car in for one that has it from factory - it is not worth the spendings.

If your dealer actually CAN pair a generic phone with the MB bleutooth - then by all means - DO let me know!!!

Steve,

Thanks for the info. My experience with the current command bluetooth is it will be able to find and pair with 6230i and the phone will be able to find and pair with command, but that is as far as it goes, they don't talk to each other anymore afer that. Wait till Andrew give us more feedback after visiting the dealer.

That's what I kind of figured, I thought the blame fell pretty much on Nokia for changing something and MB had to deal with it with a revision to the cradle.

That's exactly what I figured. I half joked with my rep at the dealership that I'd trade for a current car. I'm actually half serious since mine's only got about 6800km on it.
