Rain Sensor behavior and upgrade.

After driving my girlfriends 2005 C240, I noticed the rain sensor behaves differently compared to my 2001 E55. For example, you can leave the wipers on automatic all the time and the wipers do not wipe one initial time when the key is turned on. Also, they will automatically adjust the speed to compensate for the amount of water on the windsheild. They will automatically go on high speed if needed. Does anyone know much about this system and whether or not a 2001 can be made to perform like this by changing a control module, etc?

Thanks

...........that is how they are supposed to work even in your car. Sometimes they may swipe once when you turn on your ignition but that is poradic and they should pick up speed when the rain gets heavier. You do not need a special upgrade, you just need one that works properly.

In the owner's manual it says that the behavior is normal for the wipers to wipe one time when the ignition key is turned on. This must have changed on certain cars after a certain point.

My R230 SL500 does this. Really irritates me that they let such a trivial bug slip through. If I drive with the wipers on auto-intermittent, and the rain eases off (or I drive into the parking garage), the wipers will stop. Then I park, forget to switch off the wipers (since they are not running now). Come back, start, and wipe/squeak. Arrgh!
