Digital TV is here.

This is the new digital TV tuner for the Mercedes Benz with MOST capable cars (W211, W220 2003+, W215 2003+, all other cars 2005+)

Gives performance in both analog and digital spectrum TV signals offering high performance in metro areas broadcasting SD DVB-T

Offers support for rear screen in W164 and also selective output to non-Mercedes screen in RGBs, S-Video and Composite.

Selective input functions are NTSC and PAL to either of the AUX inputs.

Us?

As with anything really cool, it probably doesn't work in the US. It this HD TV signals or something different. Sorry for my ignorance.

It seems it uses different wiring, can you confirm me? If is different, do you know if is possible an adapter for it?

I would just install the newer cable from the TV tuner to the COMAND. The antenna system is ok with the newer unit.

In your email I couldnt see your profile. I am intending to install the digital tuner in a CLK in Melbourne later in early October.

Hopefully the results will be good and there will be time for photos.

I understand that there will be no digital TV offered in Australia till the middle of 2006. So if these work well then it will be useful to have the option of fitting it to any 2005 CLK.

Keep in mind that there is no such thing as TV while driving with the Harmon Becker navigation unit. The operating system (Windows CE) does not have any menu functions in diagnostic mode where the option of TV activation is visible.

Benzmodz,

Thanks, I did not realised my profile wasn't included in the email.
Anyway, driving a CLK 350, Harmon Kardon logic 7.

I thought free to air digital signals are now available in CBD on certain channels and programmes at the moment.

What is the cost of supply and fitting of the digital TV unit? I was intending to fit a DVD player +/- DIVX and DIVX player later on. Or should I do it all together?

I wasn't intending to watch the TV in motion. A bit dangerous I think. But I thought Steve could activate TV in motion, but maybe not to the australian command unit, is that correct?

I have been watching DVB-T for several years only not in my Mercedes.

For the additional 10% at the time of installation the DIVX player seems to be the way to go. The price of the tuner is 1.5x the dealer cost ex-factory

The Harmon Becker CLK navigation does not support unlocking. That is the same for M and C versions.

It would be so nice if MB would let US owners have video capabilities. Digital TV would be awsome here! Assuming this is the same ATSC digital signal used in the US. Almost every local station here is broadcasting in digital already. Supposedly analog signal will be forced to turn off by 2007 (or was it 2009 now?).

The small hard drive is a DIVX player. We supply that. The horizontal player is in conjunction with rear screens.

The dealer quoted £1300.00 GBP +17.5% tax for the Mercedes Digital tuner($2,000 usd), i thought it was hilarious, the dietz unit looked like a good tidy solution for approx 1/4 of the cost.

Mercedes prices are high in Rip off Britain compared to some countries.

The House wants the cut-off date to be Dec. 31, 2008 and the Senate wants it to be April 7, 2009.
