New Phone for an old car (2001)
I would like some feedback on the Mikbox, have many of you used their system?
Do all the MB systems work that are supposed to?
Any other phone systems out there that are better?
I purchased the Motorola 815 and will want to hook it up soon.
Thanks,
Ed

I use a Mikbox w/ my V710 and like it. The only drawback is the PSE in my car doesn't support caller id, so I don't see who is calling on the instrument display. Other glitch is that if you have a picture hooked to a phone number, it doesn't download properly, the number won't appear in your dash display.
I still like it though. Check out Mik's website, he keeps it up to date pretty well. Did your car have a phone in it already? You may need some electrics and a dual band antenna if it didn't. email Mik, he was real helpful to me.

Yes, my car came w/ phone, NAV, CD, etc., but when I contacted Mikbox they told me they couldn't help w/ my V3--one of the most popular phones in the world! Go figure...

My car came without the phone but it did have one in it before it was traded in. I see Mik is on this thread, I purchased the Motorola 815 for my CL600, what else do I need besides the Mikbox and cradel? Different antenna?? The phone has a camera also, do I need anything for that?

You will just need the Mikbox and Cradle kit.
The mikbox part number depends on the PSE that your car is equipped with. On your navigation unit, go to radio mode and hold down the MUTE + 1 + 3 buttons for 10 seconds. A menu will appear. Go to "Versions" then go to "D2B". What does it say in the line that starts with "Handy" ?

...that means you have the Q682-0648 Timeport PSE.
So if you want to go with the Mikbox solution, you will need to order the Mikbox for Timeport PSE (part# D-1101) and cradle kit for E815 (part# HM-9995) at www.mikbox.com/index.cgi?i=shop

MIK Box is pretty good
I have had the Mik Box in my C32 for 6 or 7 months. It works pretty good with very little loss of functionality of old system. The booting up of the phone takes a little longer than the old system, there is a little bit of backround noise as the phone is making its connection (goes away after call connects).
Two things that do not work that MIK promised over 4 months ago to include in an update, are the lack of voice mail notification (something about needing to include SMS) and not being able recall and/or redial previouslly called numbers.

Voice mail notification
Actually the original Mercedes system (V60 phone) did include voice mail notification. If I left my phone in the car and thengot back in, I would get a special ring tone (you had to set this up in the phone options) that let me know I had a voice mail waiting. It would replay this tone every time I started the car until I checked and cleared my voice mail message.
Thanks for letting me know that last number called functions work with you, I will check with MIK to see if there is an update, although I have the latest firmware version loaded now.

According to my dealer, mine is Q682-0648 but I want to double check through my D2B system info as well.

I have the Q682-0648 as well, I tore the car apart to find the number, wish MIK would post the codes on the Internet so people could find out what they have without tearing the car apart.

I compiled a list over time, with all the PSEs and versions that I ran across. I will put it up on my website, maybe someone has a PSE that is missing on that list. Generally, I can say:
If the DB Protocol is PDK2.5:
If the SW Version starts with 35 its a Timeport PSE, if it starts with 37 or 43, its a V60 PSE.
If the DB Protocol is PDK2.2:
It could be StarTac or Microtac and I highly recommend to take the car apart to find out for yourself, since a Microtac PSE can damage the phone and/or Mikbox.

I was very happy with my MikBox - one of the earlier S500 installations, and i used a V710. When I installed the box I upgraded the PSE from a StarTac to a TimePort - which gave me caller ID. Also, I had no problems showing phone numbers that had a photo associated.
MIK was super to work with, and his MikBox solved one of the most frustrating problems I had with my Mercedes.
And MIK, if you see this, glad you've become a sponsor. Good to see your name in lights!
