IPOD Integration Q and request for Pix

Where do they put the IPOD in a dealer integration install? Is it just loose in glove box? Do you have choices? Anybody have pix? I have read that the sound is not nearly as loud as radio - do you guys agree? Half as loud? It would suck if you can't crank it.

The dealer doesn't put the IPOD anywhere, but the cable is located in the glove box for the C-class (replaces the aux input). If you do a search there are some options mentioned in the forum for cradles.

To a certain extent the volume will be dependent on the recording level when ripping the CD, there is a lot of variation from CD to CD and the car environment seems to emphasize that more than the home.

Some of the sound level concerns you have heard about may be to do with using the headphone output as the aux input where the level is very low and the sound quality in my opinion is terrible. I use a Transpod (I haven't persuaded my wife to let me spend the $500+ for installation of the factory setup yet) which has a line level output into the aux input and the quality and volume is fine.

On my E with the integration kit, a cable in the glovebox plugs into the bottom of the iPod. The iPod is then free to roam the glovebox (it's not attached to anything). I do find the volume lower than radio or CD. It's usually loud enough, but you really can't "crank it." I'm trying to find an in-line amp for the line-out, but so far no luck.

When my dealer installed the iPod kit in my E, they also installed the iPod tray in the glove box. It's a flocked holder which matches the interior of the glove box. There are some photos of the tray in one of the other iPod threads. There's also enough space at the bottom of the tray to curl and hide the excess cable.

As for the volume have you ever considered that maybe some of the people on here are going deaf ?

I just had one dealer installed last week. Re:Volume- I agree with previous post that using the Aux connection causes much of the low volume issue. the dealer install is much, much better and meets my needs. I also got the "holder" described above, it is just glued down and prevents IPOD from floatinf around the glovebox, mine costalmost $600 all-in.

A nasty little problem has reared its head with my IPOD install on my 06 C230. Seems every so often, the display on the dash freezes up andthe IPOD menu's are not accessible. I took it to the dealer and they admitted it is a recognized problem with IPOD install kits, however they do not have a fix available at this time. The dealer also admitted that this problem only occurs with IPOD installs that have the COMAND system and not regular stereo decks.

Only fix for it now is to turn of the ignition for about 30 second and restart the car (rebooting); and pray that the IPOD integration kit relays the signal properly.

Even with this problem, i'd say its still worth it to get it done. Nothing beats being able control IPOD music from the steering wheel...most of the time

I'm sure this was suggested by your dealer and/or tried by yourself, but just in case - have you updated your iPod to the latest firmware?
