Basic Sound System Q
I've just learned the hard way about the fiber optic ring system andthe lack of mp3 capability within the system. (SOOO Frustrating, but you probabbly know that).
What I'd like to know is, what is a good decent system UNDER 1200 DOLLARS that will allow me to use most of the stock components and still get mp3 useability without running various tape adapters or 900 different power adapters to the cigarette lighter.
Short and sweet:
Perfer subdued head unit without 900 sparklers and fog machines.
Prefer single disc MP3CD/CD-R capability. CD player with add on MP3 storage media also okay.
Prefer EASY integration into existing Bose sound system.
no dvd/gps/touchpanel desired.
No wheel controls needed (not available on my car).
Less than 1200 dollars.
Your thoughts?
Regards,
Tom
you can easily get an alpine head unit and 6-disk mp3 changer for about 500-700 bucks depending on how fancy you want to get, but this is a bose system. Your speakers have low impedence, not compatible with aftermarket head units or amps. That means you need new speakers and amps, which will get costly. I tried to accomplish the same thing, but wound up changing everything, and it got costly. Well worth it, though.
Anyways, I guess my next question is this...
Is the Becker stock radio/tape matched to the Bose amp? What I mean is, do they or Bose sell an adapter that allows you to retain the stock amp and use a different head unit?
What I really need is a primer for a dummy like me to understand car stereo's. I'm not dense, but I've never understood the relationship between head unit, amp and speakers. My impression was the head unit connected to the amp which punched up the power and fed that power down the line to the speakers. From the post it sounds like at least some of the speakers connect direct to the head unit!
I'm a little lost on this. LOL.
I'm smart enough to know when I need help, ANYONE who can suggest a decent shop in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia I'd be delighted to hear from. Most folks seem to be out in CA, and that's a bit of a drive for a stereo install.

Thanks for any ideas you may have or clues you can give me,

I must have misstated something.
I have the Becker.
I want to know if I can replace it with another head unit,
And still use the stock Bose amp.
Thanks,
