Radio installation w203, need some help

Hi! I have installed a Audio 10 CD in a 2002 w203, but I canīt get the steering wheel functions to work. I suppose there should be 3 DIN (?) plugs in addition to the antenna, but I only found 2 in my dash, one I guess goes to the speakers, the other supply power and perhaps some other controls.

So my guess is that the 3rd plug controls the steering wheel functions...

Does anyone have any knowledge on this?

Thanks! Jm

Yup, the 3rd one connects to the car's CAN network so that the unit can get things like speed signal for speed-dependany volume (and with some units the lights on/off ignition on/off signals as-well) - it also connects to the CD changer (power goes from head unit to CD changer, as-well as D2B wakeup for the fibre-optic changer)..

I'm sort of surprised its not there (dropped down the back somewhere) - what was in there before the Audio-10 ??

On car's with COMAND that loom is replaced with one for COMAND - so maybee sometimes they dont fit it at all :-(

Ok, according to EPC, theres a part called
Cable Harness, Radio Chamber C for Audio-10/30/30-APS
Part number A203 540 08 09
which needs to be ordered with "ES1" code up to ident A535915/F433730 and with "ES1 98" after that

- The picture has a D2B wakeup connecor, a CD power connector, a CANbus connector, a fusebox connector -

Chamber C , I guess, is the C connector that you are missing !

Theres also the CD changer power lead, A203 540 32 34 - I dont know how that interacts with the above part number, because that would normally connect to the C plug as-well

Hope that helps a bit

Richard

Hi and thanks for your help!

This car has been a police car in its former life, and has had a police radio installed instead of a normal radio. Iīll dig down there some more, and see what I can figure out.

But basically the connection Iīm missing goes from behind the speedometer console somewhere to the radio, it that correct?

Thanks again!

It goes from one of the footwells (where the CANbus distributor is) to the back of the radio - and has a plug same as the A and B plugs (which on a MB are molded together) but with a differently located catch

I got the cable you mentioned, and today I literally took the entire car apart without finding a CANBUS distributor.

But what you are saying is that if I look by the footwells I will find a CANBUS distributor hopefully with an empty slot. Are there several of these around in the car or only one? And is it located alone or are there a bunch of cables near it?

One day I will make this work and it will all be worth it! Thanks again! Jm

Under the door sills are wiring ducts, they follow along to the side of each foot-well from front to back. The distributor is a block with a whole set of those brown/brown-red wires going into it and I beleive it is in the wiring duct where the duct is in the front passenger foot-well. I cant remember what side, or whether theres one on both - hopefully someone else will be able to answer that ... there are two or three around the car

Hah! I found it and plugged it and it works! The disrtibutor was by the passenger front door mount sort of, down there...

So now the radio illumination works fine and I can control the volume from the steering wheel.

However, I canīt get the other radion functions to work from steering wheel, there is no radio options in the system. Does this need to be programmed by a diagnosis system, or should they pop up by themselves.

Or are there more cables that need to be plugged into somewhere?

Thanks again! Jm

Yup, the cluster needs to be coded by the dealer to tell it there is an Audio system present, then you will get the menus - nothing else to plug in
Cheers
