Command Retrofit/ICELINK Problems. NEED HELP!

Hey guys
Just recently purchased a CLK55 AMG 04

Ordered Euro Nav and Icelink for my IPOD

Had them installed today from a very tech savy person.
I watched him install both the Command and the ICELINK and he did it 100 percent right (i made sure we followed instructions)

The Command unit works as far as NAV/CD/ and Radio but there is a major problem.
NO SOUND WHATSOEVER, and my stearing column and instrumental cluster is not recognizing the stereo anymore. VERY WIERD.

Will a trip to mercedes for a coding get this back in working order?????

ALSO, my ipod notices my icelink and mercedes, but the Command does not recognize a cd changer (icelink) therefore I cannot control the ipod.'

Will a coding help this also? Please let me know your thoughts on what I should do. Thanks!

...these 2 things don't go together...either the comand got installed by a not so very tech savy person or everything does work as it is suposed to do...

In short: HAVE HIM CHECK THE C CONNECTOR as that is not connected properly...the C connector has the wiring for CANBUS (which is why the comand is not recognised by the IC anymore, why it doesn't turn on/off per ignition key and why the NAV does NOT work properly due to the fact that it doesn't get a speedpulse) and the C connector has the WAKE UP wire plus the POWER and GROUND for the CDc which are the cause of a failing D2B ring and thus NO SOUND from the BOSE AMP.

Steve,

Thanks for the help.

We took everything apart again and back together and made sure all the wires were going to their correct areas and still nothing.

We soudered (sp?) the orginal C connecter into the new harness I bought (c1 and c2) and still no sound or no recognition from the internal computer.
Could it possibly be a bad harness? Everything esle was pure plug and play.

I will take it to mercedes this weekend, should be an expensive fix, but a fix nontheless.

Go look on my http://www.mercupgrades.com website, at the COMAND diagnostic menu document.

Enter that mode, and see what is on the fibre-optic D2B ring. If it cant see anything then you have a problem with the wiring such that D2B wakeup is missing or the fibre loop is broken - which is also possible since you added ICE link to the loop. As Steve says, no CANBus means no cluster display, and given you have both these problems it sounds like you have C1/C2 wired wrongly - do you have a CD changer, and does still eject the disk? (If so, at least you know the 2 power leads from C1 to CDchanger are correct) - The cluster will need coding by MB dealer in anycase to add the Navigation display
(NOTE of course, that the CD changer shouldnt be in the fibre optic loop anymore if you have ICE link, as its a replacement, so you probably dont have CD changer there anymore!)

I've found its easier to install the whole COMAND C1/C2 loom and use that , then you dont mod the car too much - it also gives you the AUX-Input mid conenctor, then you can easily add AUX input loom for input in your glovebox, and a power connector for CD changer (which you could use for ICElink box I guess) - it just plugs into the CANbus distributor in the footwell. Part numbers are in my retrofit comand document on the above website

Cheers

Richard

The mercedes dealership told me that the nav just wont work with my car...they told me its for a G class and thats why its not working, they said its wired correctly and all.

Its wierd because it fits perfectly. Do you think they are right? That its the wrong unit even though g class and clk w209 r the same?????

Im very confused now and left with the wrong nav

Steve or richard, can I buy a nav from you? Please email me or PM me as I am now wired correctly, and just need a nav that works. Thanks!!!

After doing research it seems the unit is the correct unit???? I seriously am confused.

Why would mercedes tell me its not the right one? Do they just dont know how to retrofit???

They told me the wiring is right, but I seriously am thinking its not.

Can someone around New Jersey do it for me and do it right????

Willing to pay a lot just to get this corrected and done with. I dont want to buy another one when I feel this one is the correct version.

the G-class unit is NOT the correct unit - it needs an additional speedpulse in order to get the navigation to work...the rest HOWEVER ought to work nevertheless (steering wheel controls, instrument cluster, sound) but yours is not connected properly.

I am willing to travel. I live in Sydney Australia.

By the way, welcome to the "I should have bought it from Steve" Club.

Send a photo. We need pics of the problem.

We have the following wires to deal with.
- CAN hi / CAN lo (2 wires) twisted pair brown and brown + red
- Wakeup (1 wire) blue + black
- AUX sound port (4 wire) yellow, brown, thin black, shield
- CD changer power (2 wire) red, brown
- Speed pulse (1 wire) your own wire

TOTAL 10 wires

Icelink (3 wires)
- 1 wakeup wire (comes from existing wiring harness)
- power and ground (from COMAND)

YOu need to ditch the idea of soldering wires. It should be cut and crimp with the proper connectors and the proper pins. So if you have to buy the crimp tool its cheaper than buying me an air ticket
