Exclamation Audio 10 CD and changer questions

I searched the forums yesterday extensively, so AmDeutsch don't get the undies in a knot please....

I have an MB Audio 10 I put in my 1998 C43 - I believe my car has the non-fiber optic CD changer. Is there an adapter from Crutchfield, Blitz Electronics or others that I can purchase to make it work or no? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty damn sure only 99 up models came with fiber optics. You shouldn't have them, but check your CD changer cable. If it's orange with a special plug, it's fiber optics, if it's just the regular DIN ISO cable that hooks into the top most port on your old deck, then it's the regular and you should be able to just plug it into the same spot on your Audio 10 head unit.

Yeah it plugs into it and the CD changer's inop - I put the old tape deck unit that came with the car and it works ok (it's the factory OEM one). I am at a loss with this. Dunno if it requires a conversion cable or what.

There is no easy, cheap, way to go from analog to optic.

Well, what I was trying to get at, is what color the cable is that you're plugging in, because either way if it plugs into both decks, chances are, it shouldn't be the deck that's causing your problem. The fiber cable is COMPLETELY different from the analog one.

First of all, thanks for the help Davis. Yes, the plug at the top of my old unit plugs into the Model 10, the uppermost one. All three plugs in without a hitch. Is this orange optical cable downstream from the head unit, i.e. towards the changer?

Your Audio 10 uses a fiber optic (D2B) interface to the changer. In order to use a changer with the Audio 10 you will need to install a fiber optic style changer AND install the correct fiber optic cables (pair) AND convert the power connectors at the changer to fit. All of the plugs at the Audio 10 will fit.

If you look at the back of the Audio 10 you'll see a small rectangular socket (there may be a green plug in it). That's the FO port.
