CLK bluetooth suggestion

I recently purchased a 2003 CLK430, and I have a Verizon RAZR. Are there any bluetooth kits that will allow me to use my Verizon RAZR with the COMMAND system? I've heard about the puck but told by WIRELESS4MB folks this will not work?

You'll have to have the factory phone kit installed first before you can use the Puck. BTW, only the very latest Verizon RAZR software level seems to work reliably with MB Bluetooth.

If you want to work around installing the complete phone kit, just install the auto-sense or newer PSE, V60 cradle, and Puck. This would save on the compensator and RF switch since they are not used with Bluetooth anyway.

CLK Verizon RAZR

My 2003 CLK430 does have the factory kit in the car-assuming it is for the V60- does this make my solution easier and what do you suggest-

You're car is an '03 so it's 99.9% a V60 sysem (only a very few Timeport lovers left at that point). Get a B67875856 V60 Bluetooth Cradle Adaptor from you're local dealer, click it in the V60 cradle, pair your new handset, and you're done.

If you're RAZR is running the latest version of Verizon software you're golden. If you have the software that was current when the phone was released last year, you may have a few intermittent issues (make up a story and get Verizon to swap it out for you he...he...he). BTW, the Verizon RAZR will give you Phonebook download over Bluetooth too!

If VZ won't change the phone for new software will it still work ok? I just called MB and they did ask for a model # do I need to reference B67875856 and if so what should I expect to pay? This should be simple as just plug into cradle, pair it and I'm good ?

The part number for the Bluetooth "Puck" is B57875856. It's available at your local MB dealer or at www.wireless4mb.com. Tell them you have an '03 with V60 phone system and you want to upgrade to Bluetooth. The MSRP is $325 but each dealer has their own margin policy. The part number is all you need and it's plug and play.

Software level ending in .03 provides a very reliable connection and operation. Older versions, I think .02 was the Verizon launch load, have some issues. It will work but you will not get the best experience.

I've tried several times to get Verizon stores to flash new software into my handsets and they always give me one excuse or another why they can't. Usually it's something lame like "machine's busted". If your not in in the handset replacement cycle right now, mumble something about "handset locks up" and see what they will do for you. I also find this distasteful but my mood changes after being jostled about waiting in line for an hour waiting for service!

I have software ending in .02, is it worth getting the puck? If so when I go on line to buy the puck it asks you to identify which phone you have, the Verizon RAZR is not listed, does it matter if I say I have the Cingular RAZR which is listed?

The Puck is the only way to get a RAZR to work in your car.

The other alternative is to use a V60s (MB Version only) in the cradle but it's really not a good value at over $500 considering it's a generation or two old. On the plus side, Verizon will still activate them because they're E911 compliant and they still have the best speaker phone ever put in a handset!

The Puck on the other hand, is more universal and will help future-proof your car for when you want to upgrade handsets down the road. There is no harm in trying the Puck with your current phone, many owner's and dealer staff have been using it with .02 RAZR's since it was released at the beginning of the May.

If you want to speed up the transaction or switch to an approved handset, Cingular RAZR with 40.9CR software is a good choice too.

Thanks for suggestion on Cingular but I work for VZ (not for wireless though) so probably not in my best interest- I was at MB last night they want $700 for the puck- I went on-line to Wireless4MB but when I click the selection for the puck when I choose Cingular RAZR nowhere does it reference a part number should I be concerned?

Very sorry about the Verizon slam! Despite my griping, I remain a Verizon custmer.

There is only one Puck so don't worry about part number.

MMM430-Startac upgrade

should be available in a couple months...i also have a 2000, but i upgraded my startac PSE and cradle to a v60 and THEN installed the v60 puck...main reason was i was sick of not having caller ID in the dash and on the radio head unit. VERY happy with what i did, and i have a great source for the parts (not the dealer)...mine were lightly used, about $250 for the PSE, $100 for the cradle and easily installed by me. Good luck.

All 2000's that have StarTAC can be upgraded to V60 and the Puck with a PSE and cradle swap even though it's only MB official for the S and CL!

Also I have noticed that some 2001 cars have auto-sensing PSE's for v60 and Timeport. Will the Bluetooth module still work if all I do is replace the timeport cradle to a v60 cradle.

Yes, as long as you have the auto-sense or newer PSE.

If you try the NEXTEL phone, please post your results. I'm doubting that the walky-talky service functions hands-free.

Is there any difference between the autosensing PSE and the Newer PSE's, would it be better to have a newer PSE to ensure the Bluetooth works better?? or does it really matter???

The newer PSE was designed to support GSM too. Since the Puck already has GSM support built in, it really doesn't matter. You just need to make sure that your PSE supports V60. Otherwise, it's not worth the upgrade.

I believe that newer phones like RAZR have a larger phonebook memory than your car's headunit. Someting like 500 versus 100 numbers. The work around is to make sure you have your important numbers packed down (no spaces/unused locations) in the first 100 locations.

But for example it didn't upload all my names under A which should have been first. It picked some but not all "A"s for example- . can you upgrade memory on headunit
