Voice control without phone system?
Does anyone know if on a late model MB (05’-06’) with M.O.S.T. system whether or not a voice control system can be installed and operated for use of Navigation, phone, radio and CD, WITHOUT a phone system installed. MB USA says no, my local dealership says yes. I’m looking for a knowledgeable answer from someone with true experience. Thanks.Glenn
To install only VCS, you'll need to order the individual parts separately as spare parts. This will include MOST cable, brackets, and the VCS controller itself. With some cars, you may need to route different lengths of MOST cable to make up for the lack of the MHI phone module. The dealer will have to experiment with MOST cable layout to close the ring because no official MBUSA work instrucions are available for stand-alone installations.
In your post you alse wrote "for use of... ...phone". I assume you mean an aftermarket system? In this case, I'm not sure.
Another issue to consider is that VCS for MOST vehicles, MY 05 & 06, is only available for E, S, CL, and SL. For other cars, the VCS and head unit software was never released/implemented.
