V1 is generally considered the best, although everyone has their own opinion. It is also programmable from the V1 website. Some of the newer Escort products also work well, although only V1 has directional arrows, which has saved by butt on more than one occassion. Consider remote mount controller for stealth.

Jerry

Owning both, I much prefer the K40. If price isn't an issue, I would go for the K40. The V1, although many love it, it limited in performance.

I would disagree about the K40 vs V1. I had them both simultaneously in a car - the K40 wored in and the V1 wired to the cigarette lighter. The V1 concistently beat the K40 in detection of signals. Thats the good news. The bad news is that the V1 falses MUCH more than any other detector I've had. Probably due to its enhanced sensitivity, but in an urban area, its something to consider. I am now using V1 in two cars and a Passport SRX with Laser shifting in my E500. The Passport os an excellent system, but very expensive and requires installation.

Really? The passport and the K40 both require installation with a price. The V1, is IMO, lacking when it comes to either aforementioned systems. The K40 goes as far as to guarantee no tickets, for a year with their system, that is how much faith they have in their systems over the competition. I used to be a huge fan of the V1, until the K40 came out and it's ability overshadowed the V1 during my use.

I'd rather have early detection than someone paying for a ticket. Its not the $$, but the points and the prospect of suspension. If early detection is the determinant, then V1 is the way to go. But V1 isn't so much better than the other good systems and it does false more and its not hiden unless you do a custom system where they etch the mirror and hide the components. I wanted hidden install and built in laser shifting which is why I went with the Passport SRX. I just didn't have a great experience many years ago with a K40 compared to the V1 as I indicated in my post. But K40 now has a wireless system that is much easier to install (bluetooth I think), so for my next car I will consider it, after reading up on the test results.

If you are comparing older versions of both then K40 and V1, then you're not being fair to either of them. However, you talk about early detection and that is what the guarantee is for from K40. It is a guarantee that they will prevent tickets. I have the K40 Bluetooth system in my Rover, Laser up front and radar front and back. It works great, however, no system works if a trooper is flipping the system on and off as you pass by, not unless you are behind the line of cars he is hot tagging. The laser jammer / detector is a good way to go with any system. Gives you a little more protection, but here is something else I learned. With Radar, one big field of "scrap metal" is tagged and a signal is sent back indicating speed. Which if you are in a group of cars is ok, unless the cop is a ***** and decides to come after you for passing all of the other cars that he tagged for doing xx miles an hour. Laser is the same way, except pinpointed to one metal object, preferably a plate or solid grill. However if jammed the cop can tag the guy next to you, get his speed and proceed after you, if you were passing the poor soul he just tagged. They have their ways of "annoying" the driver.

K40's new calibre is by far the best system out to date.
