Simple Q: Does D2B CD changer require programming?

I just bought an MB/Alpine cd changer for my 2002 C320 and the seller (an MB tech) says that, unless the car has had a changer before, a reprogramming by the dealer is needed to have it recognized. However, I had heard otherwise.

Is dealer programming required?

It will need to be programmed eventually. Fault codes will build up until the changer stops working. Sometimes this takes months, but it happened to one person in a few daysl

I am trying to install an optical cd changer to a 2002 E320. Is the reprogramming necessary? I don't have command option. If necessary, is it easy that one can do it himself?

This is the first time I heard one has to reprogram HU for CD changer. I installed 4 cd changers before.....

Your advise is greatly appreciated.

Ben

If the E is like the C, eventually you will need to have someone with a DAS computer program the D2B controller.

Hi Lynn,

Thanks. How do I find out if E is like the C class?

Try calling you service advisor at the dealer, or the the MBUSA customer assistance center at 1-800-FOR-MERC

It's been 9 months, and I haven't had any fault codes and I haven't had the changer stop working.

No HU of MB needs to be configured to get the functionality. But your dealer should do a DAS configuration of the D2B ring to make sure you will not get an additional error code.
