how to remove the radio from a C240?

how to remove the radio from a C240?
i'm wanting to remove the factory radio, but having a really tough time trying to get the front center off. from what i know, remove the astray and cover then take out the 2 screws from behind? i cant seem to be able to take out the cover of the ash tray area.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
