Cruise Control

I rented a MB in a recent trip to Europe and had a question on the cruise control. If you pushed in on the cruise control stalk it changed to a speed limiting devise. I still had control of the speed of the car but I could set a maximum that the car would not exceed. I was wondering if anyone knew why this wasn't used here in the US?

Did you find this feature useful in Europe? I don't see the benefit other than keeping you safe from speeding tickets. What would happen if you were trying to make a pass on a two lane road and were held back by the speed limiter? Maybe the MBUSA attorneys wondered the same thing.

p.s. - Why would an Indianapolis boy want to limit speed?

Oh, they don't have the speed limiter on the US models?

I bought an AMG, so it's rare that I set the speed limiter. However it could be worthwhile if you want to be sure to respect a speed limit or perhaps a limit plus a certain margin.

In snow, fog, or other difficult driving conditions, setting the speed limiter below the usual speed limit might be a useful yoke on the driver. In any event, it's easy to defeat when you want to go faster.

The only reason i could think of would be the school zone right down the street with a cop that sits there every day. Or in construction zones. It's more I just thought it was an interesting feature I hadn't seen before.
