Does anyone know of someone reputable to do an install from a 2003 w211 non-command to a Command unit?? Preferably in or around los angeles??

He usually has a Spring, summer, and fall/winter trip.

 

Buddy, it's VERY easy to do yourself. It requires you to remove..about 5 screws and 5 plugs.
Buy yourself a Torx 20 key(to remove the screws) and do it if you're up for it.
Ask some MB dealers to do it for you - some will, it's easy money for a job that they'll charge min. a half hour of labor for.

just remember that the ashtray plug isn't pulled out like the others, you just slide it down.
I really urge you to save money and time by doing it yourself.

 

kool! i thought i read on the forums that going from a NON command car to install Command was a pain in the a$$ and wires had to be run and a whole slew of other things.

 

Nope, it's plug and play.
If you're going to a Euro comand, dvd in motion cant be enabled on 06+ versions as they need to be version coded by the mercedes star computer - dealers wont do it for you(illegal) so you'll have to dish out around 200-300 bucks to mbdoctor or MBNL(Steve) to have it done
but dealers can enable the Mp3 playback on it.

after installing the comand you may get a battery error in your MFD(steering wheel display), drive around for about 10 min and it'll go away. It just needs to recharge up.

 

I may be wrong, but it MIGHT be a problem depending on what you original equipment you are replacing.

I think it's a problem if you're replacing an Audio 20 unit, but not a problem if you're replacing an Audio 50 unit.

 

uh, sorry pardon my ignorance, but which is the audio 20/50? i have the one with the cassette player\harmon kardon speakers.

 

You have Audio 50, so COMAND swap should be a cake walk.

ok, i am just interested in the command unit, not nav. do i HAVE to get the nav or can i just upgrade to the command from my audio50? i just want to be able to have ipod/bluetooth integration.

 

I'm about to put my 2006 CLS55 Command on Ebay (US Model). PM me if your interested. It is in great working condition, just swaped out for Euro.
