Extreme retrofitting.
I've got a Comand unit from a 2003 S-class. I believe it's called Comand 2.0 APS or something. It's an A220 827 4142, widescreen with concealed DVD and cassette player. It has a two-fibre optical connector and a 12-pin electrical connector and nothing else.
I'd like to retrofit it in a very old car, with no MOST, CAN or whatever. All I've got is 12V and ground. Is this at all possible? What hardware would I need to incorporate to achieve certain levels of functionality?
If it isn't possible without purchasing a 2003 S-class and stripping all electronics from it, who'd like to buy the Comand unit from me? ;D

you can do it but you'llneed to get the audio gateway as well. I would suggest you get a 203 or 209 2005 and later comand which has a integrated gateway and amplifier. you can get a CAN emulator to simulate the signals for it to work. The 220 will also require a external dvd nav drive and fiber optics. If it has a concealed drive, then it's a 2004 and later comand unit from a 220 or 215.

Where do I get a CAN emulator and how pricy would one of those be?

Anyone want to sell me a Navigation unit and an Audio Gateway dirt cheap? ;D
Or, a MOST interface/dev unit with the possibility to emulate the needed hardware? Anyone tried to look into the MOST protocol yet? The public specifications looks fairly simple and straight forward...
