I can not find that reconfig point, e.g., where I tie the phone fibers into the fiber loop in my C240 2002 car? I looked under the side panels on both sides of the turnk, in the front trunk compartment, and under passenger and driver under dash panels. My car has no amp in the trunk (basic Mercedes radio) so can't hook the phone in there. I will be very very appreciative if you will be kind enough to tell me where one would hook the phone system into the fiber loop in a 2002 C240 that has the basic Mercedes radio. How do I find the connection location and how do I access it?

Note: awiner and Richard have advised me on this, but I still can't locate the reconfiguration point!

Thank you,
Dick Gleason

In my coupe I found spare fiber under the trunk mat. This is the one that covers the spare wheel. But the wiring in question was located in a hollowed out area underneath where the baby seat latch hooks are. I unscrewed those and then the mat came off.

Thanks. I am not having a problem finding the spare fiber. It is in two places in my Sedan. #1 is behind the rear wheel well, and #2 is in a compartment at the front of the trunk, just behind the rear seat. It is covered by a heavy plastic cover. I can't find where to tie the phone fiber into the fiber loop.

Thanks,

Dick

You don't have a 'spare fiber'. You need to dis-assemble the connections on that SBS/VCS fiber and reconfig it with the extra piece of fiber you got with you installtion kit.

The phone-in fiber is already connected to the radio-out fiber in the front trunk compartment of my car. The SBS in and out fibers are connected to each other in a loop. I believe that the only reason I would need to dis-assemble the SBS fibers is if I wanted to install a VR module in my car. Otherwise the radio out, phone in configuration is as it should be and I don't need to touch that.

What I do need to do is tie the phone system into the fiber loop. Adam, you wrote an email to me on 9/26/02 where you said that, "Mercedes would not have made it this way [e.g., made the tie-in point at the head unit, I believe you meant]. They would have located a fiber re-config point near where the PSE and assorted hardware get mounted." If we call the re-config point where one would tie the VR into the fiber loop, that statement is accurate. If you were referring to the fiber optic tie-in point, the statement is incorrect. I have looked everywhere and there is no place to tie the phone into the fiber loop anywhere near where the PSE and all are located. So unless Mercedes put the tie-in point somewhere behind the panel on the back of the rear seat, it has to be up at the head unit. I even removed the under dash panels on driver and passenger sides and could see no fiber wiring there.

So what I am trying to find out is where and how do you tie the phone fibers into the fiber loop?

Dick Gleason

You can re-config the extra piece of fiber you have (if needed) to ANY D2B fiber in the chain ... You just need to disassemble the fiber at the connections and reconfig it with the extra piece you have.
