GPS Navigator, which one, Garmin nüvi 350 GPS Receiver ???

Thinking of getting this unit (Pls. see link below).

Looking for portable add-on.
Am NOT going to replace/remove my radio,
or any other systems in my vehicle.

Any pros - cons, recommendations of other units ?

Thanks.

Things to consider are mounting issues, speaker location, voice command options (street names or just turns) pricing and screen glare. I've been using the Garming Street Pilot III and the a late model Garmin (can't remember model) with touch screen. The later is easier to use but the screen is a little smaller with more glare. Either one is a hundred times better than the MB units. Hope this helps

2020 GLC300 & 2009 SL550 (previously had 1999 CLK / 2006 E500 / 2011 GL450)
The Nuvi line is great -- I have the 360 in my CLK which is the same unit with Bluetooth. The Bluetooth feature isn't really that good, so I still use a BT headset. The 350 is being discontinued, so there may not be much in the way of new features added.

The Nuvi is in my opinion the best aftermarket portable navi you'll find. I used a Magellan before this, and it pales in comparison. The Nuvi is tiny, has the wonderful SirfStar III GPS chipset, reads street names, has a detour feature for traffic jams / road closures and is very intuitive to use.

The only downside is there is a bit of a glare due to the slope of the CLK windshield. I have mine a bit to the right of center so that it sits hovering about 3 inches up from the dashboard. I only use it occasionally, so that provides a convenient location to access the cigarette lighter for power without stringing cables. Since the Nuvi also runs on battery power, I have experimented with the left side (where my inspection stickers are -- good location, but no power).

Second the recommendation for the Garmin Nuvi (in my case, the 660). The poster above who says it is 100 times better than the M-B system is understating the case. It is fast, intuitive, and has a much better display. There is simply no comparison with the slow, clunky UI nightmare that is the MB CD-based nav system.

The Bluetooth is ok, fairly rudimentary and roughly comparable to the M-B Bluetooth module in features and syncing with my Nokia E-70. One advantage of using the nuvi BT is that you can then use the phone to call out to points of interest stored in the nuvi (like restaurants or stores).

The bonus is the SD card for MP3 playing - this has a decently usable UI (with decent sized touchscreen), and feeding it through the aux in on the COMAND gives me MP3 music and nav directions, plus phone (either from the COMAND or the Nuvi BT) all integrated.

im also looking for a portable gps. i deliver parts for a dealer and sometimes, depending on what im delivering, i'll take a regular car, or a pickup truck, or a long suv...so i need something that i can take with me into the car, easily mounted, and then to be able to easily take it off when i get out of the car. im working on a budget, so im looking for the best buy under like $200. you guys have anything you can recommend?

I have the Garmin Nuvi 350 and I rate it as excellent. I have used several different types of GPS units over the past 6-7 years and this one is the best by far.

It's compact, quick, has 6 million plus POI's, and most importantly, its accurate.

You will not be disappointed.

After a fair amount of research, I recently purchased the Nuvi. I could not be happier. It has easily lived up to my expectations (small, accurate, fast, etc.). Highly recomended!

Toon - I have a 2002 e320 and am looking for someone who can help with an integrated aftermarket navi solution. You can PM me if you like, but the gist of it is that I miss my navi from my totaled E430 and want an aftermarket to mount either on the side dash or center (windshield mount). i want something that will play my ipod through my factory speakers...will the garmin nuvi achieve this? I asked one benz dealership which is supposed to have a great service department if they could recommend a tomtom that will achieve the ipod integration into my factory bose audio system but he said due to the complexity of the system he wouldn't try to integrate any aftermarket navi audio with the stock benz stuff. Really need some help from anyone who can provide details on whether or not this can be done, and if anyone knows a shop in the boston area who can help.

Thanks!

I know where you can get the Alpine Blackbird for 299.00.. It definitely blows the Garmin away, the only difference, no "street name" directions, only "turn by turn". But much better quality.
